sorry for that, english its not my native language, so let me be a little more especific. in chronological order:
1.- he wakes up
2.- he get up
3.- he checks under the bed
4.- he doesnt see sawdust
5.- he dies

Here is the question:
1) was he poisoned?

If he has a walking stick then I think I know the answer.

He's the shortest man in the world and the second shortest man in the world has been sawing bits off his stick. He picks up his walking stick, notices it's shorter than usual, sees no sawdust so there is no sign that the stick has been tampered with, concludes that he must be growing, then he either dies from the shock, or from the sadness of no longer being the shortest man in the world.

Or something.
