Maigret and the Toy Village by Georges Simenon

An elderly man is murdered in a new village just outside Paris. Only his strange – and very young – housekeeper seems to know anything about what happened, and she's not telling the police anything.

But instead of spending his time in Paris, chasing down some obvious suspects, the inspector finds himself fascinated, frustrated and obsessed by the girl.

Another deceptively simple Maigret story, which centres, perhaps even more than most, on Maigret himself, foibles and all.

Delightful.

I always enjoy books with Maigret because it is so delightful to spend time with the man. His interest is not crime - it's people in all their wonderful variety.

Also food, drink and weather come in for considerable attention. Just like for the rest of us.

That's an excellent analysis – I hadn't quite thought of it that way.

I really do love the books – yes, there's the 'noir' quality of them, but that, as you say, is not at the heart of what they're about.

Mind, I particularly appreciated reading this because I was in Paris for a first proper visit at the beginning of December, so reading about Montmartre and Pigale means so much more now.

Georges Simenon Sooo Prolific

HI
About two years ago I decided to read all of Georges Simenon's books. True to myself I have made terrific progress and have read about 63 and own about a dozen more. I've never been able to make up my mind if I prefer the Maigret's or the psychological character based thrillers.
Doesn't matter ... I will get to them all and highly recommend them. Since they do not 'follow' one another just pick up any one and you're in.

ENJOY

Wow! every time I go to a bookstore I aways find Georges Simenon's Maigret books but I've never buy any. After reading your opinions, I think I'll give try next time I see any of these books. I was wondering if it would be something that would worth the money and the time, but now I got the information I needed to decide it. Thanks ;)

Translated Dog

Yes The Yellow Dog By Simenon Is Translated Into English

I Am Under The Impression That All Of His Books Are Now Translated

He's A Wonder At Psychological Character Studies And Of Course Maigret Stands Alongside The Best Of The Sleuths.

Enjoy
