Gerald Durrell?

I don't know if anyone knows this book but it involves a parrot in a parcel and it's such a lovely story. I read it as a child and I seem to remember it was by Gerald Durrell but all the Durrell books I have found are nothing like it so maybe I am completely wrong.

I can't remember much more except that the parrot talked a great deal but I would love to read it again so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Amazon have a book by a Gerald Malcolm Durrell called "The Talking Parcel", which sounds as though it could be the book you are looking for. They only have two rather expensive second hand editions though.
