Great new holiday books?

My family has a holiday habit of reading picture books on Christmas eve to the various small kids that are visiting. I'm looking for some recommendations... Anyone have a favorite or seen a new one that would be excellent?

Not a new book but I recommend The Christmas Day Kitten by James Herriot.

If that's the book I'm thinking of, it's a horrible, horrible book to read to children! Made me cry when I was a kid.

I am also giving out two other books: Moby Dick - for my friend the mariner; and a novel, Caracol Beach by Elisio Alberto (friend), that she will enjoy.

Good books both, but I need something to read aloud in a single sitting. Cliff notes version of Moby Dick perhaps

Last year I did Humphrey's First Christmas.

I take it you wouldn't recommend The Christmas Shoes, either? :innocent:

No I wouldn't. I'm not saying both aren't great stories, but I don't know if kids will appreciate them, especially around Christmas!
