Great Walls of America

True. However, since they can't draw on the system then it really doesn't matter.

.

Of course it matters. The shrinking population that pays in is the root cause of the Social Security crisis. There are less people paying in than drawing now and the trend is continuing to increase. There's no magic bank account savinig your money for you. If the current population aging out keeps drawing and less people pay in, there is simply no money.

Again this is paralelled in Britain, with pension provision being a big concern. A recently commisioned report has recommended that the retirement age should be increased to ease the situation:

Errr...
We have exactly the same problems as USA:
1. Millions of illegal workers, wanting to do what Russians do not like to do, for less money;
2. Ageing society, with less and less workers paying for more and more pensioneers;
3. Russian Government does nothing sensible to regulate legal inflow of foreign workers, in order to collect taxes, which could be used for the needs of the citizens, give the illegal immigrants legal rights they need etc.

It is obvious that the problem cannot be solved by walling, as these workers are really needed here.

clicky

100,000's of illegals arrested on a yearly basis....I'd rather a nice fence be used to keep them out than 1000's upon 1000's of man hours. Not to mention the risk of those loyal law enforcement officers when having to make those arrests.

100,000 arrests per year equals roughly 274 people arrested per day. How many are making it across without being arrested? How many are, or could be the next terrorist?

? Seriously Motokid, throwing terrorism into the issue is silly.

A fence is absurd. It would alienate the United States even more. Also, I challenge you to take the U.S. Citizenship test Motokid. It's a bit more difficult than you'd assume.

While our country "depends" on these illegal immigrants to keep some of our prices down, I wouldn't mind paying more for certain products if it meant that our country could get back to having a manual labor force. Jobs that don't require a college education and such.

Obviously we're all just having shitty pipe dreams though. The solutions are not as easy as building a wall or anything like that.

Why is throwing terrorism into the issue silly? Do you think that just because America has not been attacked at home since 9/11 that we are safe from another attack?

A fence is not absurd. Illegal is illegal. Drugs, criminals, and tax dollars are flowing like water over and around that border. Something needs to be done because what we are doing now is not working.

A fence is not the solution, but it would sure go a long way towards helping fix a huge, huge problem.

How many loyal, legal American's do you think are putting their lives on the line everyday patrolling the Mexican/American border?

As for the American citizen test. I don't have to take it. I was born here. If I wanted Canadian citizenship I would go there in a legal manner, and do what I had to in order to become a legal citizen. I would not sneak in and exist in some illegal fashion.

Throwing terrorism in is silly because we are talking about the mexican/american border and illegal immigrants. If we were talking about terrorism, we would be discussing the canadian/american border. If the terrorists began to sneak from mexico to America, they wouldn't have been thinking about it at all. With how much easier it is to get across the Canadian border...

A fence IS absurd. How many loyal, legal Americans are "putting their lives on the line" everyday to protect this border exactly? Because I don't really recall many illegal immigrants coming across with guns and grenades. I sorta remember the helicopters and jeeps patroling, not so much the heaps of dead border patrol.

A fence would alienate us. It would NOT go a long way towards helping fix a huge, huge problem. Why wouldn't they just begin to dig underneath the fence? How high is the fence going to be? Are we going to have razor wire and gun towers? You know, like in a prison?

I challenge you to take the american citizen test and see how well you do. There are questions on there that a majority of americans don't even know.

I'd be interested in hearing the opinions of our British members regarding immigration and their country. I found a great article from the Washington Times about the flood of eastern european immigrants into britain and how the people of Britain are reacting. We all know what a "smashing" success France's policy was.:rolleyes: (window smashing, but that's beside the point) Any thoughts?:D

I don't think that a fence would help to solve whatever problems there are either. A fence just makes it seem like we're a bunch of scared rabbits who can't recover after being attacked once.

Get real, people.
There WERE already tonnels across the Mexican-USA border, and as to victims among American border guards - I think that most of these were shown in the Guys in Black - remember that incident on the border? OK, maybe 100 years before that was different, but I do not imagine it is much of a health hazard to be a border guard in USA now.

Wall never help to solve a problem.
Positive thinking and friendly behavior do.
