Hey all. I was browsing the web looking for new Fantasy like I always do, and came across these MBs. I figure a community like this is the best place to learn about authors and books.

A little about me:

The first fantasy novel I ever read was Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks.

I have read the Wheel of Time Series through Winter's Heart. Although now it is seeming to be more of a chore to get through Jordan's twisting and turning plots and remember all the characters lol.

The first 3 books in the Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind.

The Serpentwar Saga by Feist. This, I must say, has been my favorite Series to date. Very intense and I love the character development.
This was the first set of books in which I actually worried about the possiblity of main characters dying (not saying who or if they actually did lol). This was nerve racking, but I liked the suspense~.

Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. Wow....this book was incredible. And talk about Drama~. Looking forward to the rest.

The first book of Memory, Sorrow, Thorn by Tad Williams. And I am currently reading Stone of Farewell. Williams is very talented and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Anyway, that's just a little of me. I just wanted to drop a few lines and say I am looking forward to reading through these boards and learning about new Authors and books.

Welcome to the forum :)

Good choice of authors you've listed there (I like Martin).

hey there, welcome!

Would like your opinion on Tad Williams's Memory, Sorrow, Thorn. I didn't like it very much, and didn't finish the first book. Found it a little weak in the beginning...

Greetings, Jermanfu!

I have read nearly all of the books on your list (never made it to Feist's Serpent War saga though). Looking forward to gabbin' 'bout Fantasy novels with ya'.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Looking forward to discussing Books with you guys.

Direstraits, I did find Dragonborn Chair a bit slow at first, but when it picked up, it really picked up IMO. And so far, Stone of Farewell has been very gratifying. I will let you know more of what I think when I finish it.

Well DS, I just finished Stone of Farewell. I'm no reviewer and not very expressive when it comes to stuff like that, but all in all, I thought it was a very good book. Williams did a great job of bringing you along with the characters as they went through their various journeys. Each time he switched scenes I would get drawn into the various characters and their sub plots. I found myself rooting for the cast as they played out their roles. I am very much looking forward to Return to Angel Tower now!

Thanks for the feedback, Jermanfu. You've reaffirmed what I've heard from others who have enjoyed the series, that it picks up after a slow start.

I'll probably give Williams a spin again, but admittedly it wouldn't be soon. The beginning was really quite poor, IMHO, plus my demands for fantasy series have gone up damn high since Martin's Song of Ice and Fire (I bought Williams after I finished with A Storm of Swords, and boy did it have a lot to live up to).

Oh, if you've not tried Guy Gavriel Kay, do pick him up. His standalone novels are pretty good, such as Tigana or Lions of Al-Rassan. If you've enjoyed George RR Martin, you'd not mind him at all, I'd think. :)
