kickbox
hi everybody!

im just glad i found this forum!
i guess i'll just introduce myself.
im from mexico, but right now im in madrid spain studing a phd in bussines and economics, im 26 years old.
michel is not my first name, its my last name, but everyone call me that
i dont know what else could be interesting about myself  (maybe i should say that im from chiapas in mexico, that always seems to be a topic ;) ). so i guess i should tell about my lecture habits.
im a eager reader, i like almost any genre, my favorites are thrillers and historic novels, always have a couple new books around, i usually read a 500 pages book in 1 to 2 weeks, depending how busy i im.
i guess thats all, so if you have any questions ill be happy to answer. :)
by the way, english its not my native language, so my grammar can be really lousy sometimes, and i guess that being from mexico my english may seem a little too yankee, sorry about that :D

Welcome! Your English sounds fine to me, but I reckon you mean generally Americanized when you say Yankee (us Southerners don't usually appreciate the Yankee label being applied to Americans, or we don't realize that the label is being applied to ourselves).

What kind of thriller and historical novels do you enjoy? I read a variety of genres, as well, but I'm always looking for new authors to try out.

Have fun!

We'll forgive the grammar and all the rest! Thanks for joining us. Hope you come to enjoy it here as much as we have. :)

thanks for the welcoming

thanks for the welcoming

i use the word yankee 'cause i read somewhere that this forum is based in uk, so i guessed that most posters are british and i have notice in several web sites they sometimes refer to u.s. citizents as "yanks". i guess that i usually refer to u.s citizents as "gringos" (in no despective way as some people get to think)

as for what thrillers and historic novels i read, i think i can recomend old ones, i usually find an author and read everthing i can get from him/her, and then move along.

my favs are (in no order)

jeffrey archer (havent read the prison diaries yet, but everthing else is really good, especially kane & abel and first among equals)

gary jennings (all books by him are great, especially the journeyer)

irving wallace (kinda old but very good, i havent read all the novels, older ones are hard to find, the only flaw is that sometimes he makes some sort of intrandecental moral in the epilogues, i recomend, the 2nd lady, the man, the prize, the plot, the word and the r document)

anne rice (really likes her writing style, really like the lives of the mayfair witches, and the vampire chronicles - didnt like the new tales of vampires - other than dracula hers are the only vampire books i liked)

john grisham, james paterson (i guess there is no need to make any recommendation)

jose agustin (this is a mexican author, usually while you are reading the books they seem pretty hollow, but when you read the ending, you get a strong message)

mario vargas llosa and gabriel garcia marquez (they are probably the most know latin authors, really should check those, their most popular works are avalaible in english)

i guess i have wrote to much
so cya later

Welcome! We hope you like it here.

I'm an Anne Rice fan too. The Mayfair Witches' series is one of my favorites. I met her once. She is a very nice person.

Welcome Mr M.

You'll find lovers of all of those authors here and much, much more.

Actually I don't prefer either of those terms. My father is from Ghana and my mother from Korea. I like to think of myself as Ghanarean. :D

Enjoy your stay!
