I've always thought it a shame that "To Kill a Mockingbird" was the only book that she wrote. I loved the book, and plan to read it again soon! I thought that Atticus was such an amazing father figure and almost Christlike in a sense, and her usage of a naive narrator was definitely a great way to tell the story. Anyway, as you can tell, I like that book:D . What are your thoughts?
 
I love Southern lit. And how many authors write such a powerful story and never write again? I haven't read it in a few years, but each time I read it I approach it as an older person and come away with a different experience.

Have you read In Cold Blood? Harper Lee accompanied Truman Capote in his research trip for that one. It's a gripping read. Stayed up all night reading the first time I read it.
 
Ohhh sounds exciting! I can't wait to go to the library now! I love the ones that you just can't put down...those are always the ones that stick out to me!
 
Harper Lee didn't seem to like the hype that surrounded To Kill a Mockingbird and very little is now known about her. As far as I am aware, she lives on her own on the outskirts of a small town and refuses to be interviewed by anyone.

Unfortunately, the next thing we will hear about her is when she passes away and the reporters start doing pieces on her and her life.

Well that's just sad. Hey, you never know! Maybe she'll surprise us and publish another novel before she dies! lol, fat chance. Well not to say that I look forward to her death because I don't, but it will be interesting to hear what the reporters will dig up about her.
 
"To Kill a Mocking Bird " is the pinnacle of story telling so why would the author feel the need to write another book. Meg
 
When i was reading TKAM in school, there was this rumour going round that she was actually in the process of writing a follow-up (loosely based on the voiceover bit at the end), but i gather that it was nothing more than that, a rumour.

A shame i think, it was a very powerful debut :)

Its a great book alright - though i found it a bit hard to swallow that the kid Scout had such a handle on prose. What age was she - around 5?
 
I don't think she can, at this age, produce anything like To Kill a Mockingbird. Perhaps it was never her intention to write Novels since To Kill a Mockingbird is semi-autobiographical in nature.
 
--I think the author doesn't feel the need to write another book,since her ...Mocking Bird already put her in a lime light for a long time and maybe give her enuff munny to live her life for such a long time.
 
Anyone who is interested in Harper Lee should get the new biography called Mockingbird. It gives an amazing look into her real and very private life. Her realtionships with her childhood friend Truman Capote and her father who she based the Atticus Finch character on.
 
I heard that when she was interviewed and asked why she only wrote one book her response was "I had one story to tell and I told it."
 
The longetivity of the book is in direct relation to the film with Gregory Peck...both continue to thrive...each because of the other. :)
 
I absolutely adored To Kill A Mockingbird; it touched me when I first read it in my freshman year at high school..
Still does, in a way.

P.S. - Ashlea I love your little pix! is it one of the Psyche's Pandora paintings? I love all of them... the story is so intriguing
