Haruki Murakami: The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle

I am planning on reading Enduring Love by Ian McEwan once I am done with Murakami.

Under consideration are Time's Arrow by Amis or The Tin Drum by Grass. I will likely go in that order: McEwan, Amis and Grass.

Also, to add to my first Murakami novel (experience), The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle: It reads like silk and visually, well it's wonderfully crisp, and the story itself keeps you hooked from page-to-page...at least that's in my case so far.

Haruki Murakami is nothing short of a genius. I am savoring this one very much. Now I can't wait to get going with Kafka on the Shore.

I read Kafka on the Shore for a Japanese Literature course that I took during my first year of college. I loved his surrealism and imagery, but I got super into the story and really needed something more out of the ending. Haven't read anything else by him and have been meaning to check out The Wind-up Bird Chronicle.

I tried reading this about a year ago. I've never really got on with Murakami, and I had to stop halfway through this. There is a particularly unpleasant scene, and I felt he'd in no way earned the right to stick something like that in mid-way through so I dropped it. Wasn't enjoying it very much anyway. I've also tried Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. Got bored off my face by the tediousness of it.

If you do try it, I hope you're one of the many who find Murakami wonderful.

I think it's one of his best novels, along with Kafka on the Shore.

Im now reading it on Portuguese
Only when I go to beach , but it has something different about it that really appeals to me.

Sometimes it gets boring and weird , Creta Kano explaining everything about the pain she suffered ... or just the fact that it seems that Murakami has some sort of fanatism in talking about menstrual cycles:blink:

Im in the middle of the tenth chapter and at this time the book sounds very cool
