I haven't but love to met authors and ask them to do autogragh in the book which I buy. I love to meet Danielle Steel (don't laugh at me!) Maeve Binchy and Paullina Simons.
Personally speaking, I'm rather not interested in meeting any contemporary authors, unless it would be a one-to-one meeting. Most of the authors I like are dead now.
Though, I was once on a lecture given by an American professor Robert Cialdini, mostly about his book "How to influence people." I must say it was very interesting, because the professor has a talent of vivid speaking.
Hi!
I haven't met any authors, at least I don't remember... but I've written to and gotten answers from Belgium author Amélie Nothomb, French author Robert Sabatier (I don't think he's wellknown here...) and Raymond Briggs ;-)
In addition to my earlier post, I did meet Ann Marie MacDonald tonight - she read from her new book, and was terrific, so lively and comical. I am shelving the other book I was reading and diving into this one.
Since working in a bookshop for a few years now I have met - Maya Angelou, Bill Bryson, Michael Palin, Michael Moore, Ian Rankin ( a few times), Alexander McCall Smith. It is so good when you meet an author and they are just nice people, no special treatment unlike a few other authors I have met and would not like to name!
I haven't met any authors (except, like phil-t, university lecturers), but I'd like to meet Terry Pratchett. I have emailed Julie Bertagna about her book Exodus, and got a very nice reply.
I went to the Carnegie Awards for kids books when I was at school, so met Jenny Nimmo and Jacqueline Wilson. Both were lovely, lovely people and advised me about story writing - best tip they could give was to just persevere with the writing!
I've exchanged emails with Freya North as well, and she was brilliant and very humble about the fact that people enjoyed her books.
I've been in contact with two published authors, Charles Montpetit (by email), and another who taught a course at my University. I'll refrain from mentioning her name as we didn't exactly get along. To put it mildly.
