Hello everyone,

I'm a senior writer from British Columbia, Canada. My interests are futuristic techno-thrillers, sci fi, and mysteries. Generally speaking, books that are pertinent to the state of the world today, or in the future. I also like medical mysteries and novels about scientific ideas and inventions. Anything I can learn from. I'm not into romance, or urban fantasy. Saw this forum and joined, to see if there are others with similar ideas.

:welcome - and yes there are quite a few on this forum who read those books - perhaps the best way to engage them would be to start a discussion about particular books or particular ideas you want to share your thoughts on :)

Hi. What are some of your favorite books?
Hi, Readsalot,
I try to keep a balance between books I read for information for my writing research, and those I read for recreation. I mostly read stuff about consciousness, the state of the world, philosophy etc. etc. One book I liked was The Holographic Universe, by Michael Talbot. He claims the universe is one big hologram. Another book I read was Seeds of Deception, by Jeffrey M. Smith, about GMO foods. For entertainment I read mostly thrillers and suspense novels, like the books of Lee Child and Michael Connelly. I have just finished First Family by David Baldacci. He's pretty good also. I've also read The Camel Club, and Absolute Power that he wrote. I used to like the Lincoln Rhyme novels by Jefferey Deaver, like the Bone Collector, but I don't like his other works that much. That's about it! If you're a writer, you don't really have too much time to read, I find. Hope this gives you an idea.
Happy New Year!

LOL and here I thought that writers were first and foremost readers. Michael Connelly is good. Have not been able to get into Lee Child. Camel Club series was amusing. I enjoyed the movie of The Bone Collector - haven't read the book yet :)

What meadow said. Most writers I know read a lot... like constantly.
Lee Child's all right...it's kinda the mindless "things blow up; (Reacher breaks peoples)' bones" sort of entertainment.

I am listening to The Whole Truth by Baldacci right now. It's decent so far. Poor Shaw.
There was a book *gasp*... yes, it was an excellent movie.

I know what you mean about liking some works by an author and not others. I'm that way with Alexander McCall Smith. I find his non#1 ladies detective agency books incredibly boring.
