Hello From Louisiana

Hello everyone. I've just joined and am looking forward to meeting new people from around the world.

I live in Louisiana and have just completed my first book. After I got out of school I lived in Saudi Arabia for sixteen years but there is something about the hills of North Louisiana that tend to call you home.

I spend a lot of time at work and look forward to the week end to spend time at my camp on the upper end of Lake D'Arbonne. It was there that I found the material for my book.

Hope everyone has a great year and Geaux Saints. It's been a long time coming.

New Orleans compared to Riyadh. Now there are two diametrically opposed cultures. Wow.

Glad to have you with us. What did you do for sixteen years in S.A.?

"Do you have any publishers interested in your work, or is it already published" I had it self published. The name is "I Called Him Grand Dad". My grand father died when I was a child and I only knew him as as an aged, somewhat excentric, lawyer from the deep south. Little else was told to me about him. Then I found his private political papers that had been in storage for 45 years. He was a 4 time delegate to the Democratic National Convention, La District Attoney, youngest member of the La Senate, law partner of Huey Long, Chairman of the La Public Service Commission, FDR appointed Federal Prosecutor and the man that started the investigation that led to the Louisiana Scandals. Sort of felt compelled to write the book. He also went to the Scopes Monkey Trial to watch his two friends fight over the right to teach evolution in Tennessee Schools.

As for what I did in Saudi Arabia; I was a project engineer for Aramco. Wonderful experience and a utopic life style.

Thanks and Geaux Saints

I was a junior in high school when the Saints first started playing. Been waiting a whole long time but knew someday somehow it would happen. The stars aligned just right for them this year. On the field they are truly one team and off the field they are a group of great men that have done a lot for their community and the state. They represent the NFL well just as Indianpolis does. Should be a great game and what better place than Florida.

Saudi utopia

It was a wonderful experience. Mid 20s with a wife and 6 month old child and wanting to experience adventure. We lived on a compound about 5 of 6 miles around called Dhahran. 27 hole golf course in the middle of the compound. Nice town houses to live in. Great SCUBA Diving plus a lot of opportunity to do some great desert camping. I spent a lot time in the fossil beds looking for fossils and shark teeth. We had three weight rooms and four swimming pools plus four softball fields. I would play 120 games a year. The school on the compound was fantastic. No more than 12 kids to a class room and the teachers had to have a minimum of a masters degree. We also had a bowling alley and movie theater plus named acts would be brought over for entertainment. We also had visiting US universities that offered courses that would lead to a Masters. It was nice back then. The local population was wonderful to work with and get to know. Very safe down town in the Arab town of Al-Khobar. No reason to lock the car doors and assaults were non-existent. Vacations were to Europe or the far east. It was about as close to Utopia as you could find.
