I see you are reading Mark Hekprin.I liked soldier of the great war very much and this remind me i should read something else from the man.I have Winter's tales and Pacific on the shelves.

I love Mark Helprin's writing! Right now, he is my favorite author. I have read both Winter's Tale and The Pacific and Other Stories. I think you would enjoy either one. I do have to say, though, that his short stories are often so beautiful and/or sad, they make you cry, so it was difficult for me to read more than one at a time.
