Hello everyone,

My name is Kathleen and I live in British Columbia, Canada. My current reading obsessions are historic non-fiction (especially on small, specific topics) and time-travelling fiction ala Jasper Fforde, Kage Baker, and Audrey Niffenegger. If anyone has any recommendations in these categories, I'd love to know about them! I also read regular fiction, fantasy, mysteries, nature writing, you name it.

I'm very excited to be here and I'm hoping to learn about many more great books.

Welcome! I can't think of any book recommendations at this second, but check out the forums. You're sure to find something there! :)

Welcome! :) You might try author Tess Mallory for time-travel. She has I think six of them out. One is a series of three (two written and one coming out). I think the titles are: Highland Fling and Highland Dream (don't remember which one is first). I know that Highland Magic is the third one coming out next year. You might also try Catherine Asaro for time-travel. But I can't remember the name.

 Do you have a preference of subject matter or geographical location for the historical non-fiction?

Thanks for those suggestions, I'll check them out. As far as the historical stuff goes, I'm less interested in the broad sweeping historical books (eg. the history of modern Europe in 800 pages) and more interested in smaller, more specific stories. For example, I just finished Simon Singh's "The Code Book" which was excellent and Andrew Bridgeford's book about the Bayeux Tapestry. I like puzzles and enigmas that are maybe less known than the overarching history that surrounds them.

Kathleen.

Hey, Welcome to the Forum :)

It sounds like you might enjoy the history books by Giles Milton, which tackle various little historical mysteries and prove interesting reading.

Phil
