Help finding first book

I'm a 19 year old girl in college looking for my first book to read for pleasure. I want to make sure it is a good one so that I will have a good first experience and continue wanting to read. I'm interested in a book that has a romantic love story; something with dramatic twists and turns that really have me on the edge of my seat, preferably a fiction novel. I feel like I want something with a deceitful plot, leaving me thinking "Oh my God I can't believe this." I looked at Borders recently, but I was referred to Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts, both of which seemed like they were geared towards an older audience.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Counte of Monte Cristo is a good one, but very long. Bout a guy that gets locked up wrongly right before he gets married. He escapes only to find out the guy that set him up married the girl he was going to, and sets out to get revenge on all his enemies. Very cool story.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon might be what you are looking for. It's about a woman from 1940s England who time-travels to Scotland in the 1700s, and falls in love with a highlander despite being married back in her time.

anything by Iris johansen usually involves - deceit, lies, murder, sex, love. sooo needless to say..easy to get into simply written and fast paced with action then romance.

time traveler's wife

As much as I loved The Time Traveler's Wife, I wouldn't recommend it for the first book. It's a bit confusing and constantly flips back and forth between time. I think you should read it, but not as the first book.

If you want light reading and quick, try Janet Evanovich books. She's got 14 in a series that I blew through. Stephanie Plum series. The first one is "One for the Money"

This is comedy, romance and all around silliness. Stephanie Plum is a girl that falls into the world of bounty hunting. There are 6 or 7 main characters that continue on to the next books and each book in order has a different main plot. Try these, you'll like them.
