Herman Hesse

The Lazarus Post

Thank you for reviving this post.

I have had "The Glass Bead Game" reccomended to me several times. I promise to read it someday soon.

I haven't read "Hangover Square." I'll check that out too.

But I have read "The Trial," and I agree that it shares a lot in common with "Steppenwolf," more in style and tone than theme, to me at least.

Could be a German thing.

Steppenwolf

twenty pages left and wow. I can understand why Hesse couldn't understand why youngsters were enjoying this book. You have to have lived long enough to have got disillusioned. However, i think the pace of life is much quicker these days and it's possible to feel the same dissillusionment in your mid 20's - lol.

i have a number of points to raise about this book but i shall wait until i have finished it, it will probably answer all my questions in that time. It now reminds me much more of hangover square than the trial!
