Hi from middle California

New Member
I joined as of today and wanted to introduce myself.
I read alot. At any one time, I am listening to an audiobook and reading a paper book (not exactly at the same time!)
I read/listen to various kinds of books--fiction, classics, non-fiction (often scientific or psychological or historic).
I just finished Catch Me If You Can, David Copperfield, Before The Dawn, Hunting Eichmann, and Defending Jacob.
Currently, I am listening to The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and trying to get back to the recently started paper book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Unusual for me to pick so much non-fiction.
Besides reading, I love to grow roses and daylilies, bird-watch, and go geocaching (a new addiction!) I retired a year ago and am so enjoying not being a child protection services' supervisor anymore!

In SoCal?

Watch out for Lovecraftian, I'm a little bit suspicious of his loyalty to SoCal after reading some earlier, rather disturbing, postings... As for me, I may not be in SoCal, but my heart is...you should reflect on that, Lovecraftian. Reflect on it hard, my friend :D

I am actually in northern California, near Sacramento. Nor-cal, I guess it is.
I do like to visit Socal now and then though.

I'm jealous of your retired state :p

I am listening to an audiocd about the Hitler Youth...very interesting stuff...but generally I stick to fiction.

Hi and welcome.

Readsalot,
Have you read The Book Thief? That is where I first came across Hitler Youth. It is a favorite book of mine--fiction.
I have detoured from The Rise and Fall . . . as I have had two broken mp3 players in the process. I will go back to it just as soon as I finish Rainwater by Sandra Brown.

That's defamation of character Parrot.

Sparkchaser, please ban the Parrot. for cheekiness and general malaise.

Well, thanks for the warm welcome from all of you and the advance warning about Will!
I finished Rainwater so it's back to Hitler.
I welcome any of you to be my friend on Goodreads. I like using it to keep track of my reading and also, to look at their reviews before choosing a book.

I thought I'd heard The book thief on CD but I don't remember Hitler Youth being in that, so maybe what I read was a different book. I thought it was written by the Inkspell author. Maybe I'm just crossing my authors.

Meh, more I read about book thief, the more it doesn't interest me. "Death" as narrator...really? Have heard some people say it's a good book...maybe one day I'll listen to the audio.
