Hillary Clinton

Quite honestly, I have trouble seeing how she could do any worse.

personally, I would LOVE to see a Hilary Clinton win. I'd also love Obama (who also anounced today I believe) to be her running mate. And then 8 years late run for president. And win.

*I'm canadian btw.

Is America ready for a female president?

Hmm, when the rubber meets the road, I don't think the time has come.

Would she make a good leader?

I think she would be fine until troubles come. Then I perceive her lack of transparency to be her Achilles heel. I didn't read Living History, but most of the reviews emphasized how she seemed to dart around the truth and avoid any real revelation of what she thinks, other than "I wanted to kill Bill." Hm, Kill Bill. Why didn't she ditch him many years ago when he was hosing Jennifer Flowers right under her nose? I just find her street cred diminished by the fact that she settled for staying married. Maybe for some power and the perks of are just too much to give up.

How would she fare in the eyes of those overseas versus our current president?

I like Beer Good's answer. Heavens to mergatroid, we have got to put someone in there who can form a complete thought and express it. What do you think SFG? Is she strong enough to carry the Dems into the WH? Better yet, what does she read? What are her philosophical underpinnings? Obama, for my money, has more of the reflective nature about him.

Is America ready for a female president?

I'd LOVE to say yes, but I can't. I'm ready for a female president, or a hispanic president, or a president with mixed racial heritage. Who cares? Sadly, a lot of people. There are many people out there who won't vote for a woman or a person of color simply on principle. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see Clinton or Obama winning the Democratic Primary.

Would she make a good leader?

Absolutely. I've never subscribed to any of that "Hillary Hating" nonsense. The fact of the matter is that she is a strong woman with her own career. She hasn't ever pretended to be anything else. So many folks are willing to say they don't like her, call her a bitch and say they'd vote for anyone but. However, I've yet to come across a person who can put up a VALID argument of why they dislike her more than any other democrat.

How would she fare in the eyes of those overseas versus our current president?

Well, she knows more about foreign relations and policy than he does. The international community seemed to have a lot more respect for America as a whole when her husband was president. She can speak in coherent, complete sentences. I'd say she has him beat hands down.

I voted for Bill, no reason whatever I wouldn't vote for Hillary. She's already been in the White House and knows her way around really well, I'm sure. Plus I lo-ove the idea of that "impeached" president coming in through the back door, absolutely LOVE it, to show the dim-blasted republicans what for.:)

Wanted to edit this to read that I meant, in no way to imply that Hillary would not be the actual president in every sense. Just that literally, he'd be in the White House. Why do I love that idea so much?

How would she fare in the eyes of those overseas versus our current president?

I suppose initially she'd be given a clean slate. She's a democrat and was married to Bill Clinton, the last decent American President: they seem to share the same beliefs. I think if she sticks to the ideals she's always preaching about, she could change the way America is currently seen by the rest of the world.

How would she fare in the eyes of those overseas versus our current president?

Seriously? You could run a pig in a suit and he'd be more welcomed over here (by myself and the remaining rational sector of society, at least). Then again, a pig in a suit...Bush...pig in suit....Bush...much of a muchness, isn't it?

To be honest I haven't read or heard much about Clinton or her policies. I remember checking her website once, but I'm afraid I've forgotten any information I found. On the assumption that many of her policies will be a reflection of her husband's, I'm all for the woman!

Oh, and I would prefer Clinton to Condi. Is she running?

I believe that the U.S. is ready for a female president. Seeing how the country has been represented with men at the helm for so long would probably cause many people to be looking at other alternatives.

The strength of a leader is difficult to predict, but I think she will be tougher than whatever opposition she's going up against would expect.

I don't like Bush. I never have. Clinton would be an improvement because no one could do worse.

The news only keeps getting better for her.

Hillary Clinton has significantly widened her lead in the Democratic primary from 11 points to 19, according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll released today. The poll was conducted at the same time that other candidates have launched announcement tours and received increased media attention.

Specifically the new poll shows:

Hillary's leads over her nearest Democratic rival has jumped to 19 points (40-21), from 11 last month (29-18).
Hillary's share of the Democratic primary vote ballooned to 40% from 29% last month.
Sixty percent of voters from either party say Hillary would be a good president if elected.
Among all those polled, Hillary leads John McCain by a 52-46 margin and Rudy Giuliani 49-48.
Hillary's favorable/unfavorable is now 58/40, her highest rating since becoming a senator (up from 53/42 in November).
"As other candidates are getting more and more attention, Hillary is getting more and more support," said Clinton chief strategist and pollster Mark Penn. "This poll confirms that Hillary not only can win but actually is today winning."

Today's poll comes on the heels of a Newsweek poll showing Hillary leading every Democratic and Republican contender she was matched up against, and a Fox News poll showing voters believe Hillary would be the toughest on terrorism of any presidential candidate from either party.

So is it going to come down to Clinton vs Obama and Guliani vs McCain?

I think Obama's intention from the start was to get enough popularity to be Vice President. Even he has to know a black man has no chance. This might be Edwards's plan too, but that will never happen; he had his chance.

So is it going to come down to Clinton vs Obama and Guliani vs McCain?

You are correct on the democratic side. Things have heated up between the two over David Geffen's decision to back Obama and not Hillary. The news had a big report about it. It's definitely going to get nasty between those two.

I don't see Guiliani or McCain being the GOP nominee. They are too moderate. Guiliani is an east coast republican, a breed notorious for pro-choice abortion views, not to mention being conservative economically, but only in name socially. Issues like abortion, gay marriage, and other "hot button" wedge issues will prevent them from being the nominee. The conservative base is already nailing Mitt Romney for "flip-flopping" on abortion and announcing that he's now pro-life. Things look good for Sam Brownback, though he's a relative unkown.

Oh goodness, claybugg, we need to get you out of them thar hills and into civilization. With all due respect, what causes you to believe that a black man has no chance at the presidency? I am simply staggered to read this.

Obama has the advantage over Hillary in that he has no political baggage attached to him, he's almost a blank slate. So far the only thing negative they can come up with about him is that he's a smoker.

McCain has "flip-flopped" as well, trying to appease the bible thumpers who he once denounced. He's definitely not the candidate he was back in 2000. I think Guiliani has a good chance even though he does have a lot of vowels in his name for a President.
