Historical fiction with fantasy/horror

Just read Abraham Lincoln VAMPIRE HUNTER, it was good, but
I'm not sure I like this new genre of books that marries historical
fiction with fantasy/horror. I prefer books written similar to the

It's received good reviews but I don't know if I could take this book seriously. Anyway . . . have you read Harold Schechter's Poe books?

I don't like this mingling of horror with classic works of literature, but I found that I really enjoyed Lincoln as a vampire slayer.

I've never read Harold Schechter Poe- I'll look into it.
I'm not sold on this genre of novels, but if I read a five
