How do you create polls?

I'm sorry, I tried, but could not figure out. And I didn't want to do trial and error and get everyone confused.

Start your thread, add a title and some text for your post.
Scroll down and click the little box that says post a poll and select the number of poll options you want.
Click 'submit'
Next fill out your poll options
Add the poll question
And the choices to vote on
Specify how long the poll will be open and whether the votes will be public.
Click submit

Does it matter to the server if I kept open the polls for 999 days? Or is it just an extra function?

The server is an inanimate object and has no opinion. But it was kind of you to consider it
