I don't take the covers off when I read. The only time I'd probably do so was when it was a book whose cover is falling apart anyway... like my copy of Gone With the Wind.

I don't. Well, I try, but they always wound up getting wrinkled, falling off, or getting something spilled on them....and it depresses me greatly. It's one of the reasons I rarely buy anything but paperbacks.
