How many books do you own?

I hate it when I do go in someone's home and run up to the bookshelves, and then can't find anything I'd be interested in reading. :eek: So I suppose I am a book snob to some extent, and I am quite sure, some would look at some of mine and go 'yeech'!

But Frankly, My Dear.....:p
 
I personally own 55 books, all of which have been purchased in about half a year, which isn't too bad. There is also a bookcase in the lounge filled with books, of course, and we also have boxes of books put away in a cupboard, but they don't really count as mine.
 
I keep my books on a database program too...rbase, which really, really dates me if there are any computer geeks out there.

Between my husband's collections and mine, we have over 10,000 books. Fortunately we have a big house and no kids, but even so there are books pretty much everywhere. I gave up trying to arrange by author, but they are sorted more or less by topic. I collect children's literature and natural history, my husband likes natural history too, and also all sorts of science and genetics stuff (he's a genetics professor, so lots of textbooks). Both of us like antiquarian books, so we have a section of that too.

We don't watch TV, so we read pretty much every night. With the exception of traveling, books are our one major vice/indulgence. I would rather buy books than just about anything else, and I guess it shows when you look at our decor. One nice thing about floor to ceiling bookshelves in every room is that you never have to paint the inside of your house ever again, except for the kitchen and bathrooms.
 
I have a few hundred. I'm trying to control myself. At one time in my life I had a book buying problem akin to heroin addiction. One day I looked around and saw piles of books I paid full price for but hadn't read. Some of them had receipts in them that were ten years old. That moment I realized that I had a problem. Now I'm cruising my way through the piles and catching up fast. Whoo HooO! Addiction!!!
 
i'd guess around 500 in my house. plus a few thousand ebooks. :) i think i have the book addiction problem also...

nice article links. i flipped through The Not So Big House while at a bookstore once. it has some interesting ideas and designs.

if i had my way, every wall in my house would be a bookshelf.

I keep trying to tell people, the R-value of books has been greatly overlooked:D
 
yes indeed. i wonder if they give out energy star ratings for built-in bookshelves. that would be something.

update on my book collection numbers:
of the 488 books i've discovered around my house, 66 have never been read, and 29 are in various states of abandoned reading.
 
I have enough books to cover all four walls in a 12x12 bedroom. We're in the process of building shelves to store them. My hubby is tired of them all over the house.:p
 
I just added 20 more children's books to our collection..there was this sale cart at the library, see..I'll post the list over in the appropriate thread in a bit!
 
Too many, but never enough.
As my interests change my collection grows.
I think I have an irrational fear of boredom. When I have a house full of books (which just happens, wherever I am living) I know I will never be bored.

Several hundred on shelves in my study. Several hundred more boxed up in storage. Seriously need to get an eReader (that works).
 
Bloody hell, six years after my first post in this thread and I have over 800 books at this point. I need more shelves desperately, as a good section of my wardrobe is taken up by books.
 
Not as many has i'd like? Heh heh. I dunno if i used to own more than i do now or not (i lost quite a few in a fire about a decade ago after i got back duty overseas). About 350, give or take one or two. Not nearly what i'd like to have; a lot of the ones i lost would be too expensive in this day and age to reacquire.
 
Around 200. Includes all types of books ranging from biography to fiction, non-fiction and books by Indian authors.
 
I have four shelves full of books. These are printed but most of the new books I normally have in digital form due to convenience and cost. I don't plan to count for exact number.

Most of my books are nonfiction and include text books and some fiction.
 
About 40 something books, a lot of them being literature classics. Hoping to expand that number ; I have started buying books instead of borrowing them for the sole purpose of watching it grow. If only they wouldn't be so expansive!
