As a socially awkward person, I often find myself struggling through small talk, usually I make it through okay, occasionally someone will say something that I just have no way to reply to, today was one of those days.
The hubby and I went to a library book sale and were at check out, the very nice older lady told me "oh, all your books have lovely covers you must pick them for their covers" to which I said "yes, I am a very visual shopper, I will by anything with an interesting cover" she then looked at my husband and said "lucky for you she picks books by their covers"
Now I could tell she meant well, she was implying he was nice looking (yet at the same time inferring that was all he was?) so I just smiled to fill the awkward silence but truly didn't know where to go with that. Anyways I thought it might be fun to share our social missteps and maybe seek some guidance on how to recover from them.
