MMMMM

Well it was entertaining, and of course I had to read it being the most talked about book for a while.

Was very disappointed with the way it just sort of ended. Mind you I do have my own theories on the Grail and all :D

And besides, had to read it before the film comes out...Tom Hanks????? Why didn't they go for Harrison Ford if Robert is supposed to look like him, makes sense to me that they should have.

Still.....my Dad's reading it now - will see what he makes of it all

I've just finished The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffeneger. I thought it was brilliant, once I'd got my head around the time travel book. I read it in about 3 days, which is good for me. :)

I too liked The Time Traveller's Wife. I didn't love it as much as some of my friends did though although I did find it very touching.

Reaching the Start Line

Hi,

I am new to this forum. Looks like an interesting place.

I have just finished reading Reaching the Start Line by Jack Goodman. I had to get it off the authors website after a friend of mine wrote me about it, am not sure if you can get it in stores as I am in Hong Kong and finding a book here and not paying the earth for it is a saga in itself!!! First time I have bought a book over the net but definately worth it!!

Hope to talk more with you guys.

Bye

Welcome to the forum, ucheeva. Hope to see you return often.

Just finished Gemini, the concluding book in Dorothy Dunnett's Niccolo Rising series. Not quite as rich in detail as the previous ones (probably because she has set it in countries the characters already know pretty well), but does a splendid job of describing all the different personalities and relationships.

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. I liked it a lot. Piles of sympathy for the main character. Great plot. Tons of humour, dark humour. Will definitely read another Atwood. Last science fiction book I read was Ender's Game by Card and while not being two books that are easily comparable I enjoyed Oryx and Crake significantly more.

Margaret Atwood is becoming one of my favorite writers, I haven't had a chance to read Oryx $ Crake yet but I loved the Blind Assassin, Alias Grace and Handmaids Tale.

I just finished the Many Lives and Secret Sorrows of Josephine B. I thought it was very good, made me wish I had the sequel already but soon.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Kinda boring. The last few chapters were certainly better than the first few. Good thing it was short or may not have made it through the whole thing. If I did it would have taken a while.

This is one that I just can't complete for some reason. I dont' know if it's just that I don't like it or if it's too obtuse for me, but I've tried reading it innumerable times. Congrats on the feat-I'm sure it was worth it. Perhaps I'll try again some time.

I just finished Pyramids by Terry Pratchett. it was ok and I enjoyed it but not as much as some of his. I just started Thief of Time by Pratchett.

I am going to Barnes and Noble this weekend to look for "Handling Sin" by Michael Malone to take with me on vacation. Has anyone read it.

Just finished reading Clive Cussler's Inca Gold. It's easy to see Cussler's writing formula in this one. While I don't think it was as good as Valhall Rising, I wasn't bored with it by any means. It proveded me with enough relief from essays and other papers to grade from work. I do enjoy how Cussler throws in historical tidbits and that the story begins in a muche earlier time period. He also has a good sense of humor in this one, with many scenes that make you chuckle as Dirk becomes the "fished"(i.e.-not to spoil it, but those of you who read it know what I mean.) A good read, glad that I stumbled across this writer at others recommendation on this board. :)

Have a great Vacation

Margaret Atwood => Alias Grace

it was good....i liked the ambiguity.....but not quite getting the motive behind the quilt patterns.....anyways.....

SHABBA!!

Viriginia Woolf's To The Lighthouse

I find her stream of consciousness style horribly dull and very hard to put up with throughout an entire book. I feel asleep while reading it - which is bad. And it was just after noon and I'd had my 8 hours of sleep at night so it wasn't even because I was tired. That book is just not recommendable to anyone but fans of either Woolf or the stream of consciousness style of writing.

I got it from Amazon - the Wordsworth Classics go for very little. So if you order books from there you can just stack it on top of the others at almost no additional cost.

3 quid or so. Not too bad.

Currently reading: Trace by Patricia Cornwell

The last two books I have read are:

CSI Binding Ties by Max Allan Collins and
City of Bones by Michael Connelly

The CSI books are pretty new to me. Binding Ties is the first I have read in the CSI books. I'm hoping that the other books are a little more exciting to read. I guess I watch so much CSI on TV that I expected the books to be better, but I had a hard time getting into this one.

City of Bones was good. I don't know lately I am reading alot of these type of books and I'm being disappointed. Not saying City of Bones was disappointing, but my father in law read it and said it was great. I guess again I was expecting it to be a page turner.

I'm hoping Trace by Patricia Cornwell turns out to be really good. I have read every single Kay Scarpetta book she has written.
