i need help.

i am in speech and debate but mainly in speech. i do humorous & serious interpretations and sometimes duo. i've found my humorous interp. for this season (from one for the money-janet evanovich), but have no idea where to look for my serious interp. i want something really powerful but not something necessarily about death which is what these pieces usually involve. i want a piece on loss because it is such a broad topic and everyone can relate to it. any suggestions? will follow any titles.

You might want to take a look into Gayle Sanders' Mummy's Witness.

Besides murder and loss it is mainly about failure and helplessness. Powerful and very heartbreaking. I carried her story for a long time with me.
I had to put it down quite a few times.
