I have combed the Internet (and read several books on the subject) for information, but what I got were muddled and contradicting facts, so I am recurring to you , my next to the last hope.
All these questions regard World War II
a) Is it true that the average age of a RAF pilot at the time (and the USAF) was below 28? Were there older pilots? What about doctors? They must have been older.
b) Were doctors permitted to participate in military actions (e.g. fly in missions) or were they strictly what in RAF slang is known as “ground wallah”? I know that in the American forces doctors did fly if occasion called for it.
c) This is the toughest. What would have been the rank of a doctor in the RAF? What would have been his possibilities for promotion?
If you have any input that you want to share, you’ll have my eternal blessing! Thank you!
