I think I'm just dumb...

I'm not really sure if it's just me, or is there anyone else who had a hard time getting into "The Witching Hour" By Anne Rice....

This is the first book by her that I picked up in the attempt to read. Maybe I should have started reading The Vampire Chronicles, or even one of her single novels?

I put it down for now and have started "The Historian". I will pick it up again in a few books from now.

Has anyone either read The Witching Hour or plans to read it? What are your thoughts on my next move with Anne Rice?

If Anne Rice happens to read this post :p I'm not dissing you, I'm just a bit confused with your writing style......

I have not read a single book by Anne Rice. Honestly, am I missing something that perhaps I should try.

I had sort of the opposite problem with my two attempts at Anne Rice (The Mummy & The Vampire Lestat) - they were very easy to get into and really grabbed me at first, but about halfway in they suddenly lost all momentum, became longwinded and self-important, and I had to force myself to finish reading them. I haven't read a Rice since.

I had a friend who referred to Rice's books as "monster porn" (which kinda put me off), so I never even attempted to read one.

Isabell I somehow managed to wade my way thru it. Thats the last time I tried to read anything of hers. When Interview With a Vampire came out, I avoided it for a long time. Finally read it and enjoyed it very much. Partially on account of the setting of N.O. However from there her sequels simply lost their punch and went way down the hill.

ROTFALOL at your comment SIL, you couldn't be more right, and btw, she did write some of that sort of trash very early in her career. It is under another name that escapes me at present. I bought one (in B.Daltons btw!), and I thought well, if you can buy it in here, it can't be to specific. Ye Gods! It is the most poorly written, childish silliness attempt at innuendo I have ever even imagined! Yuck doesn't even begin to cover my reaction!

I would not bother to pick up another of her books.

sorry somehow I managed to double post...
Pontalba,
It seems to be going around today. :( I've had two already. Two doubles, that is, and who knows but this may make a third? We'll soon know.

scotch? :D ;)

Why, oh, why would you ever consider not getting into Anne Rice to be a shortcoming on your part?

You know how Peder always seems so cheerful after a trip to Borders, pontalba? Where do you think he's really going? ;)

I don't see our Peder hanging out at Hooters, do you?

Oh, I think he goes to Borders alright, but he's mainlining that cappuchino;) :D ;)

I enjoyed Interview with the Vampire, but have not read any others. I would like to give the Mayfair witches series a go one of these days though.

Fine, but I suggest the library route. Just in case......

Sounds like the hard stuff to me......double expresso...at least...:D

I'm fllyyyiiinnnggggg.......;)

Well, that clinches it. I've heard nothing but mediocre things about Rice's books, and this thread pretty much helped me decide to never read a book of hers.

But there's plenty more to read anyway. :D

Well i would not suggest her new Christ The Lord book I've been trying to force myself into that all week and have given up.

Oh, I have liked one book by her, the Feast of All Saints. It was not one of her vampire books. It had a little mention of voodoo but otherwise nothing super natural took place and it was okay dokey.
