quick and easy horror books

I haven't read any mass effect books and halo books, so I can't compare, but the last horror book that I read was quick and easy. It's a new book called Drowned Sorrow (Vanessa Morgan). Very entertaining and only 188 pages long. It's about a sect that lives in a small village near a haunted lake and it's with ghosts that materialize out of water. I think you'll enjoy it if you like Bentley Little, John Saul or H.P. Lovecraft.

Another quick and easy book that is a must-read is The Howling (Gary Brandner). I'm sure you already know the werewolf story, but if you haven't read it, it's worth trying. And I think it's also less than 200 pages.

Good reading.

The Hobbit is a great book. You should think about that one... though it's Fantasy and not Sci-Fi if Sci-Fi is what you were after.

Dresden Files and the Ender books are what you should go with. I'd say the Ender books because, simply, they are better than the Dresden books (by far). As for the Hobbit and His Dark Materials, I think that might be too large of a step up for someone who is coming off Halo novels. Instead of feeling like quick and easy reads as they would to someone who, say, has just finished reading the complete Leo Tolstoy collection in the original Russian, they might put someone off who is coming at them from the other side of the literature spectrum.

The hobbit is a children's book. I doubt it would be a tough read for anyone who has read the halo novels.... or anyone over the age of 13 for that matter.

But, Ender's game is also a good choice.

So, Ender's game or the hobbit. Pick either and you'll be happy you did.

Can't go wrong with the Salvatore Forgotten Realms Stuff... I recommend Homeland, Sojourn, and Exile as a good place to start if you are looking for easier reads...

The Mysterious Benedict Society

Every now and then I like to read some young adult fantasy. As I'm sure everyone here knows that it's a hit and miss sub-genre. But this book, while not overly original, has been good so far.

I highly recommend Dragon Lance, they are super easy to get into and consist of your basic fantastic fantasy.

I believe the best one to start off with is "Dragons of Autumn Twilight" or something to that effect. Best of luck and enjoy whatever you decide to read.
