Is There a Doctor in the House!?

honeydevil said:
thank you stewart... that was really graphic... can we test that on you?
Hey, at least it didn't depict a dog's balls getting lobbed off!

I would also suggest the "cut it open, drain the pus" method, as well as the salt bath. Maybe even some Hydrogen Peroxide (I love watching that stuff fizz) to help clean it out. If it's still infected, definitely go to the doctor for some antibiotics so you don't come down with the "feel-like-shits" and start up a nasty fever. But then again, I would have personally superglued the wound when first cutting the finger open, so what do I know?

Actually, that's not such a bad plan, believe it or not. They used it in Vietnam to close lacerations. Super glue and Dermabond (liquid suture) are really close in makeup. They suggest not to use super glue as it may cause inflamation when it breaks down, but in a pinch I've used it on myself and it worked just fine.

In a pinch I've used duct (not duck) tape, twine, Scotch tape... sewed myself shut... I'm just full of clever ideas.

You live in the land of TCP cream and ointment, which I buy a crate of whenever I go over to Old Blighty. Use some of that, but don't put a bandage on. Keep it dry. Put the TCP on ever couple of hours and try not to get other stuff (onions, hot chilies, motor oil, etc.) in it. If it still looks pink and tender at the edges after three days, go straight to the clinic and they will give you an antibiotic.

That's English medicine for you anyway. Probably if you went yesterday, they would tell you the same thing.

Ok i tried to open it up yesterday but i was a wimp and didnt have a pin or anything so i left it. This morning it was twice the size and hurt a lot! I had to go to work anyway, so i went and asked the vet the best thing to do :D She said to go to the doctor as my finger was a bit swollen and hot. So im going tomorrow morning. Also i got a sterile scalpel blade and drained it and scrubbed it with Hibiscrub (what vets use to clean there hands before an op). It stung like hell but my finger became less red.

I put a plaster on it as i couldnt have an open wound at my work. All kinds of bugs there. Now im not sure if i should go to doctors at all as its not as infected. However even if i dont go im stayin off work because i already have permission! Wooohahaha!

Iv not taken the plaster off since then as im scared of what il find. Itl come off in the shower anyway so il wait until then :)

Good idea - I'm forever running out of antiseptic but have a very large supply of Hibiscrub :D

Oh went to pharmacy and got Melolin and magnesium sulphate paste. As recomended by pharmacist. :D Its a lot better.
