James Lee Burke

Are there many fans of James Lee Burke here on TBF. I am pretty sure there are at least several fans, like Nighthawk and Miss Shelf. I have read almost all of Burke's book. There are several of his very earliest that I have missed but will probably read them and will put them on my TBR list.

Dave Robicheaux or Billy Bob Holland. Which are your favorite, as if I didn't know.
 
DAVE!! I worry about him getting beaten up all the time, he's too old for that. I'm also eager to see what JLB does with Dave next since New Orleans is wiped out.

I was wondering about the next book also as it will surely revolve around the wiped out New Orleans. Clete will take care of Dave if he runs into trouble at his age.:) I thought they both took it to the "edge" a bit in Crusader's Cross. I wish more people would read his books as I believe they are really missing some good writing and stories.
 
Thanks for the heads-up! The link you gave resulted in a blank page so I looked it up on B&N.com and it sounds like this one was written before the hurricanes. It also sounds a little bit like a rerun of one of his earlier books, but that won't stop me from reading it! :)

You may be happy to read this. (If you like book to movie adaptations)

The upcoming film version of In The Electric Mist With Confederate Dead will star Tommy Lee Jones as Robicheaux, Peter Saarsgard as Sykes, and will feature notable large men John Goodman, Ned Beatty, Tom Sizemore and Mary Steenburgen in addition to James Gammon, Levon Helm and Kelly McDonald. This will be directed by Bertrand Tavernier.

Hopefully this will be better than the awful Alec Baldwin version of Heaven's Prisoners. What a piece of garbage that was.

This is the only Burke I have read, and I loved it. I have Heaven's Prisoners on my TBR pile.

Oooo, I don't know. I mean, I love Tommy, but I don't really see him as Dave. Hopefully the director is competent enough to pull of the incredible atmosphere of the novel.
 
Just finished his latest, and he is still the un-disputed champ of modern descriptive writing. I never have to physically go to Southern La. because I have already been there through Mr. Burkes unbelievable writing.

This is so true. I am a big fan of Burke and have read everything he has written. All of the story lines seem to run together in my head and I know exactly what I am getting when I pick one of his up.... but in my opinion, no one writes really evil, psychopathic villains quite like Mr. Burke.
 
Just love his books ... Robicheaux does get himself into some scrapes, doesn't he? I've read many of them and it didn't even matter that I didn't read them in order in the beginning ... I still enjoyed them.
