James Patterson

I've only just really started reading and went straight for 'Four Blind Mice' i didn't realise it was part of series, oops, but really enjoyed it anyway, i've since bought 'Along Came a Spider' and 'Kiss the Girls' so i can start reading in order. I have also read 'Lifeguard' which i was a little dissapointed.

Patterson is a lost writer, in a tunnel of non-creativity, looking for unseeming ideas. I have read most of his works, they have the same pattern. Similar style. Usual plot. Same story line like you'd see in any boring cartoon. And the same silly ending. I hate to appear very boorish on this man, but Patterson never fails to disappoint! His only work I enjoy was The Jester and First to Die. Even First to die had a very boooo-like ending. Most of his books are meant for the shelve. The same dusty stacks readings no one wants to touch, though he remains one of Larry King's favorite author. I wonder what the media see in guys like Dan Brown, Patterson and all these annoying writers??? Anyone have a suggestion......

I'm just finishing my first James Patterson book, 1st to Die, the first in the Women's Murder Club series. I watched the 1st episode of the TV show so decided to try the books. This is a great book! I can't wait to read the others.

Hi-

I've read pretty much all of Patterson's books. I've just posted my thoughts on the last one I've read, 6th Target on my website. I can't URL, yet. I have to create about 12 more posts to give out my site address. Anyway, 6th Target pretty much followed the same formula as the other five Women's Murder Club books I've read. Actually, they're kind of getting boring. However, I'm sure I'll read the 7th one, just so I can say I've read them all.:D

They are pretty good, but after the 3rd one, they all start to sound the same. A couple of my favorite Patterson books are Roses are Red and Violets are Blue. Give those a try.

I'm not a huge Patterson fan but I lve his audiobooks. I recently enjoyed Mary Mary on the treadmill, while doing chores and stuff and it was great. I'm not quite certain if he always uses the same narrator but his voice and the sound embedded in the audiobook was quite creepy at times.

:star5: LOVE THEM! I've read several out of the series and still have more to go.. there is a new book in the series comming out this month called Cross Country! I honestly have'nt ever read a book by him that I did'nt like, I was a little taken back by one book that did tail spin into the widely popular book series for teens called Maximum Ride, this was inspired by his "when the bow breakss??(something like that) and the Lake house. Now those two were a little out there but not so bad I did'nt want to finish them. The Quickie and Beach Road remain to be my two favs of the ones written by him and a CO-Author.

I'm not a huge fan of James Patterson. Though, Kiss The Girls is by far my favorite book that he's written. I bought the book Cross, but I didn't finish it, and gave it to a co-worker because she was such a huge fan.

I first saw his books recommended on a top 100 book recommendation list from a book shop!

I have read all 7 of the Women´s Murder Club and enjoyed them! Though I started getting bored with the last few, but I will read the 8th one expected out later this year!

I have also read ¨Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, ¨The Lake House¨, ¨Mary, Mary¨ (Alex Cross Series), ¨Honeymoon(with Howard Roughan)¨,¨Lifeguard(with Andrew Gross) and ¨Judge and Jury(with Andrew Gross)¨.

However, ¨You've Been Warned¨ has to be one of the worst books I have ever read in my life! Did anyone else feel like this? It turned me off James Patterson´s books to be honest!

I've just finished 1st to Die from the Women's Murder Club series and I really enjoyed it. :star4:

I liked that he used small chapters and I was hooked from the start. I thought the female characters were very strong even if we don't really get to know much about any of the other characters, except for the main character (inspector Lindsay Boxer). I'm guessing they will be more explored on the next books of the series...

I also liked the constant twists and turns in the story although it could be very predictable sometimes. I loved the final twist, by then I wasn't expecting it...

One thing that kept distracting me had really nothing to do with the story but it concerns the television series. I've watched it so I couldn't help but picture the characters in my mind as the actors that played the roles. It was very difficult to me to picture Lindsay as a blonde and Jill as a brunette because they are exactly the opposite in the tv series...

I'm definetly going to read the other books in the Women's Murder Club series.

patterson is a good author but the style and set up structure of his books makes me think of a tv show.. with chapters ending as if it were a commercial break.. i admit ive only read half of "first to kill" and with all the chaos and bad news he starts everything out with i thought it was a little overdone...

Totally agree with this. I have studied different writing styles as I write myself and Patterson style seems to lend itself to the silver screen.

like he was intending on it being turned into a movie or hoping for such, yes. regardless, the stories are still good but i couldnt get past his style. i dont like tv/movies interfering with my book reading haha

I read all of James Patterson's books as I come across them. I very much like the Alex Cross series; I do like series books so that's not surprising I'd like Cross novels.

It's not surprising to me that he's a top selling author. Not deep and searching for life's answers but thoroughly enjoyable reading.

Fascinating, i've just finished Kiss the Girls and wasn't impressed but i was under the impression that Patterson is a quality crime writer.

The whole thing seemed to lack any depth and it felt like he was struggling to find a decent ending to it. Being like a trashy TV movie is spot on i reckon!

I don't think i'll hurry out and buy anymore of his books if this is considered a pretty good example of his work

Do the Alex Cross books stand alone? I picked up Double Cross and will hold off on reading it if I have to read other Cross books to be able to follow the story.

It isn't crucial to read the books in order. Meaning you won't be totally lost if you don't start with Along Came A Spider (Alex Cross book 1).
JP will do some recapping from future Alex Cross books (when necessary) if it is needed to fit the plot or introduce or re-introduce a character.

Thanks, grabbing Double Cross and headed to the couch now. This is my first James Patterson novel!
