Janet Evanovich

If you liked the Janet Evanovich Stephenie Plum novels then I would recommend the author Liz Evans and her Grace Smith novels. She has written several, including "Who killed Marilyn Monroe", "Don't mess with Mrs In-Between" and "Barking". I can't remember the others. They are similar to Evanovich's Plum series, but set in England rather that the US. I've seen them in WH Smiths before but bought mine of Amazon.

You may also enjoy Sarah Stohmeyer and her "Bubbles" series. About a ditzy blonde hairdresser/journalist who solves murders. Very funny.

Yes, I can second that. read "Marilyn Monroe" by Liz Evans and was quite amused. Not quite as good as Evanovich but enteratining, silly fun nonetheless...

i am now at the FOUR TO SCORE, and you were right, Stephanie Plum is quite funny and you can't get enough!!
i want more!! :D

I've got all 10 and read them. VERY funny! Dang!

The 'Full' series sucks though. Beware! I tried Full House and hated it!

What do you think?

I didn't like the "Full" series either. I used to like the Plum series, but it got tedious-you know her car will blow up in every book, she can't make up her mind between men, etc. I did get a kick out of her grandma.

the grandma is awsome, breaks off fingers, carries a gun big enough to make sure you will never find all parts of the victim (sp?) and buys spandax and a vette!! :D

I wish I had her for a grandma!!
my both grandmas are this way, the only thing that's missing is the gun in their purses!! otherwise they kick everybodies ass!! it is a whole lot of fun!! you can come and visit my grandmas!! :D

Okay!! Can I borrow one of them sometimes? I promise I won't give her a gun to put in her purse!

I love how she goes to funeral homes, and the funny scenes that go on in there. I've never been to a funny funeral!

Grandma Mazur for President!!

For funny funerals, see "Six Feet Under".

Another male Plum fan here. Only read three so far but these are the funniest crime books that I've ever read that aren't written by Carl Hiaasen.

In a similar vein, can also recommend from the U.K. Lauren Henderson's Sam Jones novels (starts with "Dead White Female". Sam's a sculptor by trade so there are also some wicked pokes at the world of modern art) and in the U.S. Sparkle Hayter's NYC based TV producer-turned-sleuth Robin Hudson.

I really like Janet Evanovich, her books are a nice break from the more serious books I normally read. I've read the Plum books, Metro Girl, the Full books and the two re-released novels. I didn't really love the re-released novels though. I like Evanovich because her writing is funny and keeps me laughing, but these books (especially Love Overboard) I thought were sortof dull. I'll still read the rest of them as they come out, but I think it is easy to tell that they were written before Evanovich really honed her writing skills.

Also, weren't her early book written for a romance reader audience? Seem to remember that she wrote some of those at first.

Yea, they were. Metro Girl is not one of them. That is a new series. The other books are romance novels that she is re-releasing. She's way better off writing mystery/comedy books as she does these days.

Once again, more books that I have that I haven't read yet. LOL

I can't wait to start them because of all the great things I hear about them.

I'm in the middle of "Metro Girl" and I have to say it's really bad. Weak opening, weak characters and weak plot. Hopefully her other books aren't like this.

The Stephanie Plum books are good. They start with One for the Money. Metro Girl wasn't great, I agree. I can find good in just about anything, but I rate Metro Girl toward the bottom of the Evanovich pile. Although, I like to think of Janet's books as my literary junk food. They are released in Mass Market for a reason. They appeal to two audiences:
1) People who read romances and weak mysteries and would never pay $15 for a book.
2) People who read them as a break between books with more literary value.

Janet Evanovich.

These romance/mystery/comedy books are the best. There are so far 12 in the series. I laugh til i think i am going to cry each time i read them.
These books are about a bounty hunter. her name is Stephanie Plum and she works for her cousin Vinny. Stephanie is not very good at her job and she dosen't get much better. the men in her life are Joe Morelli, a sexy ex-cop, and then Ranger, the mysterious black car driving mad man who is sexy as anything. who will Stephanie choose? read them and find out. :D ;)

I really enjoy Evanovich's books as well, bookgrl. My favorite character has to be Grandma Mazur. She makes me laugh out loud every scene she's in. Her obsession with funerals is hilarious.

Oh, and I would positively choose Ranger. ;)

Hey bookgrl! I am reading this series right now. About to finish #9. I love them very much and tried reading these while walking on treadmill and had to stop the treadmill while reading these cuz on a couple occasions I got stumbled up from giggling and about had some bad accidents:D

Is there a #12 yet? I only knew of 11.
