Jasper Fforde -cool stuff!

Sometimes ago I was desperate from this grey cruel unjust world, and I was looking for a funny and kind book here.

Somebody advised the Jasper Fforde SciFi book series - and that was awesome! I really suggest reading it, whoever still had not. I could not believe that I omitted him till now! I can not stop laughing when I read his books, so that people at home look at me strangely these days :D

Trully recommended!

I did learn about Fforde here. In fact, I have picked up The Well of Lost Plots because of the recommendations here.

I will get to it, I suppose, but I've always this trepidation of trying out stuff not at the beginning of a series (I believe The Well of Lost Plots is not the first in the series).

I think that it's the third - the first is The Eyre Affair and I believe the next is The Big Over Easy.

Well I hope jumping in won't leave me with a bad impression, cause the Eyre Affair is extremely difficult to track down.

ds, I think Fforde reiterates the background of the main characters well enough that you'll catch on pretty easily. I've read the first three (didn't know another one was coming out) and they're a very entertaining read. It's fun just seeing how many of the literary allusions you can catch (you'll know what I mean when you read it). Enjoy!

I would recommend to start from the first one. I picked the first one by mistake the first :) and I was very happy I did so. The books are made in series. Although they jump there in time, still some frame of reference should be kept for following the events :)

The Big Over Easy is actually part of the spin-off series "Nursery crime" (starring police officers Jack Spratt and Mary Mary)... here's the lists:

The Thursday Next books:
The Eyre affair
Lost in a good book
The well of lost plots
Something rotten
First among sequels
(July 2007 :D :D :D )

Nursery Crime:
The big over easy
The fourth bear

They're all really great, except perhaps that The fourth bear was a little repetitive of The big over easy... But genius on routine is still genius! :)

I read The Big Over Easy a little while ago, and it was really terrific. I hadnt enjoyed Something Rotten quite as much as the rest of the Thursday Next series, so this new direction was terrific. Loving all the (sometimes obscure) nursery rhyme references, and its great trying to spot them all :)
