Jim Carey (Split from Spanglish)

Whoa whoa whoa, Jim Carey was excellent in both The truman Show and The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind!

Cheers

I haven't seen the latter or the former so I can't comment :) I have heard Spotless mind is really good.

I do HATE him though with a passion. Every movie I have seen with him in it is the same. I can just see it on the set.

Director: Annnnnnnnnnnnnd action!
JC: Pulls a funny face.

Every. Damn. Move. Ever.

Again, go watch both The Truman Show and The Eternal Sunshine - not a funny face to be seen. He's actually quite a good actor.

Cheers

i agree wholeheartedly. while i don't really get all the fuss about his brand of comedy, i really like his more serious films. i also really liked man on the moon.

I did see the Truman Show, despite my reservations, and I thougt it was predictable and all JC did was mug, with his usual 'Gee whiz, I'm so innocent' face interspersed with his 'Gee whiz, what's going on' face. That particular movie had a decent premise but, IMO, would have benefitted by the presence of an actor with the tiniest bit of soul. JC is a caricaturist.

whaaaa . . .I just went in the Spanglish door and came out the Jim Carey door. That was like getting beamed up onto the Enterprise. Cool. . .

Add me to the list of Jim Carrey haters. He wasnt so bad in spotless mind, but i just cant take him seriously after seeing a couple of his other movies.

I think Liar, Liar alone neutralizes both of those movies and The Man in the Moon too!

I for one wish that he went back to his slapstick Ace Ventura and The Mask days. (And I mean just Ace Ventura and The Mask). Ace Ventura remains one of the best comedy I've seen.

I didn't like his transition from comedy to drama. His win in the Golden Globes has mistakenly given him the impression that he can carry a dramatic role for every film he's in.

I think Carey is silly to no end, and the fact that he can actually act too places him in the all-around category with Jamie Foxx.

I actually like Jim Carrey. Sometimes he goes OTT with his gurning, but when he tones it down he can be a decent actor. The Truman Show is one of my favourite films, and I thought he was excellent in that. I haven't seen Eternal Sunshine... so I can't comment on that.

Has anyone seen him while he was with the Wayans in In Living Color? He was brilliant there!

Come to think of it, In Living Color was brilliant!

Did anyone see The Majestic? It was the only film I've seen with Jim Carrey starring that was even worth watching, in my opinion.

The Majestic made my teeth hurt, so damn much sugar!

His In living Color-days were brilliant, yes.

Cheers

The Eternal Sunshine
Once I can handle, twice not. Leave that "the" out!

I thought he did a terrific job in Eternal Sunshine by the way, and I thought Man on the Moon was an OK movie too, as far as biopics go. And wasn't his role in Simon Birch serious too? (It's been a while since I saw that one.)

Still, I'm not too big on the comedian Carrey.

I really enjoyed Eternal Sunshine. But I couldn't stand Bruce Almighty. I mean, it had its moments but his antics grew tiresome. There would be a really really looooong running gag and it was like, "enough already"...

Don't hate him, don't exactly like him either.

for one, he's a self-taught actor. he didn't even graduate from high school. also, his brand of comedy doesn't always translate well onto film. it's not violent or offensive. that's not a bad thing though, because, face it, a lot of movie comedy just isn't funny in real life.

I can't really make out if you see all the things you mentioned as a good thing or a bad thing.

Cheers
