Judy Blume

I don't know if anyone has posted about Judy before so here goes. I grew up reading Judy, she can really relate to younger people and teens. It was easy and fun to read her books and I felt it didn't tie me to down to a large book, being little and not having a large attention span as I did. I thnk she basically she wrote about her experiences, not really from her imagination. Thanks to my Dad I read when I was young but when I was pre-teen Judy Blume helped me to get interested.

I remember her books quite fondly, she isn't afraid to tell it like it is. I despise children's authors that talk down to kids, she definitely never did that.

I reconise the name, but i don't remember what she has written, so....what has she written? :p

So many-- but off the top of my head: Are you there God? It's me, Margaret.; Blubber; Tales of a Fourth-Grade Nothing; Fudge; Superfudge; Deenie; Starring Sally J. Freeman as Herself; Freckle Juice; Then again, maybe I won't;
<cue announcer voice> And many more!

Yep, she talked to me straight out - not sugar covered. If you ever have children I reccommend giving them these books to read!!!! They are helpful, true and funny.

Ah yes I remember now! :D I used to read them books too.

I made it, well I found all the rainbows and sparkles online and I wrote those words in paint and copied and pasted it all together :)

I loved Judy Blume when I was a girl - if I have a teenage daughter, I shall most certainly pass those books along. They helped me relate better with my parents, and generally discover relationships between people.

I loved her, too!

I loved Judy Blume growing up - do you all remember Are You There God, It's Me Margaret?

My daughter just brought home her scholastic book sheet, and there were some Judy Blume's there - Tales of the 4th Grade Nothing, etc. She started out with some younger stuff.

What age will you let your daughter start reading Judy? Although I won't be handing over Forever quite so soon!!!

Beth

That is the problem with Forever - everything else is appropriate for the young uns, and then there's that one and Tiger Eyes (I think) which you should probably wait a few years for. Maybe 13 or so?

I remember reading one of her books when I was about ten; for the life of me, I'm unable to recall the title. I do know it was soft-core porn.

I'll let my daughter read 'are you there god' fairly early, like 10 but forever I'd wait till 15+ ...you?

I wonder if anyone has read her books for adults besides me. They are Wifey, Smart Women and Summer Sisters. Summer Sisters was HUGE here a few summers ago. I really enojyed her books as a kid and as an adult I enjoyed these three books. I think Blume manages to appeal to a really broad range of people, something few authors can really do.

I read Forever and Summer Sisters. I read Forever when I was 10. My mom found it and was like, "Have you read this?" and I said yeah. Since then, I've been allowed to read pretty much whatever I want. (I'm 16.)

I adored Judy Blume when I was a kid, growing up she was all I would ever read. She introduced me to books and started making reading fun for me. That woman means a lot to me for that simple fact, I know it must sound weird, but though I never met her, I adore her.

I've read all of Judy Blumes books too. She was fantastic for teenagers I have to agree. I think they may all still be in my mums loft. Will have to ask her about this and see if can dig them out. I'm sure they will bring back very fond memories of my teens. :D

Wifey

I absolutely looooved Wifey (I found it on my boyfriend's mother's bookshelf hehe, I was curious 'coz I had read her children's books in elementary). It was a great read... once I started I couldn't stop. I read it at the end of April 2004, so it's been awhile. Smart Women is on my to-be-read list.
