Ladies and Opening Doors for Them

lmao!!!
seems to me somebody did say that too me recently....
i would laugh. i would in both scenario's. i've so rarely been subject to true, chauvinistic behaviour, where the guy wasn't just yanking my chain, that confronted with it i would think it absurd and just hoot.

I've got two lmao's already this morning....my job here is done....off to another thread to see what joy and happiness I can oooozzzzeee forth there... :D :D

It's been a real pleasure, and a treat doin' business with such lovely, and totally smokin' hot babes this wonderful Tuesday morning.... :D

You should count yourself truly lucky then, I seem to frequently be subjected to astoundingly chauvinistic behaviour. Come to think of it, I bet that's just the fellas feeling intimidated by my superior intelligence & wit ...

... why's everyone now laughing at me?

Hey, you want equal rights, you got no right to moan about guys not opening doors for you, okay!!

Sheesh, next thing you know they'll be wanting to vote and get jobs!! ;)

Phil

PS: I may possibly be kidding around ... possibly :)

Okay, I would have said that the chivalrous thing to do would have been to let her through first. As in, stand aside and indicate that she may move through the door first. Otherwise, if you make a dash to get through, you look impatient and greedy to make it through the door.

I think that in such a situation door-rights take precedence over traditional chivalry. That is, the person who can open the door for the other the easiest (her in this case) should hold the door for you. If you still want to be gentlemanly you may stand aside and tell her to come through first. But if she insists, you should walk through while she holds open the door, and then you may hold it for her to walk through should you wish.

to add to what kook was saying, i think it is also proper etiquette to always let the people outside in first, as they may standing in the cold or rain. but if the person heading out has packages then the door should be held for them to get out.

Who would have thought that getting through a door was such a complicated business?! Jenn, perhaps you should try writing your own etiquette guide! :)

I agree with kook, since the door opens to her side, let her open the door, but also let her through first.

Chauvinism and gentlemanliness (is that a word?) are not the same thing. I like having a door opened for me and such, but do not expect it. I live in the deep south where men are still gentlemen and a woman is still a lady. I am a strong believer in manners and at the age of thirty, I still "ma'am" and "sir" my elders. I've had elderly men hold a door for me and I've held a door for elderly women.

Moto- if he says "yo, hot stuff..." then he gets one of my patented dirty looks. ;)

oh phil just shut up and show us your ass.

*Sigh* If only I could, but he is ever in his secret hideaway on the Isle of Arran, grazing with the goats.

As for courtesy to women, I am all for it, I'd generally hold the door open for anyone if I got there first.

Phil :)

it's very complicated. i don't feel i would be up to the task. i'm only polite in emergencies. the rest of the time it's a bit of a free for all.
