Shrek: Forever after.

For being the last movie of a drawn series, it was pretty good. It provided a good "it's a wonderful christmas" type of angst, which made it somewhat of an attention drawing movie.

^^^ You still should,it was funny but I found it predictable and practically knew what was coming.

A coworker thought Due Date was hysterical and told me I was probably sizing up all comedies with The Hangover. He's right.:whistling:

Easy A. High school girl gets a (unfounded) rumour for being a slut. Since they're reading The Scarlet Letter in English lit, she decides to play along, stitch a red A to her clothes and show people how hypocritical they're being. It backfires in spectacular and, occasionally, hilarious fashion since it turns out people are hypocrites. (Also, because nobody else has actually read the book.) Not a great comedy, but the script has its moments and Emma Stone gives good snark. :star3:

The Galaxy Invader. Alien lands in the rural southern US. Rednecks find out, get drunk, get shotguns and hunt him for about an hour. Yes, that's the plot. Hilariously bad 80s direct-to-VHS low budget shit. :star1:

Watched Horsemen this evening. It was a crime/drama/mystery, and I'd have to say that though it didn't live up to its promise it did have its moments. 6/10.

Watched The X-Files, the movie from 1998. I've seen it before, and I'm prejudiced because I LOVE The X-Files, but it is a damn good movie.

Black Swan. Despite a couple of scenes that go a little too far into melodrama (which may be the point, as it's a) based on a ballet, and b) told from the POV of a woman going through a complete mental breakdown) it's an excellent film - Tchaikovsky meets Cronenberg with a bit of Kafka sprinkled on top. Portman is excellent, playing the part with every inch of her body (she apparently lost 20 pounds for the role, and she wasn't exactly big to begin with - yes, it's a plot point). Visceral, physical, devastating. And then Tchaikovsky's music on top. :star4: +

They Live. "I've come to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of gum." Somehow I hadn't watched this before (that I can remember). And sure, for an 80s action movie starring "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, it tries to make some remarkably serious political points and I can't help but cheer for it... but the acting is terrible (though not as bad as that other great Piper vehicle, Hell Comes To Frogtown) and at some point the conspiracy just becomes an excuse to execute people right and left. :star2:

I watched They Live many times. I think the fight with Roddy and black guy is one of the best in movies.

Ten minutes of fighting to convince someone to put on a pair of sunglasses. Ten minutes of a 90-minute movie. I'm sure that as a fight scene it has its merits, but it stops the movie dead.

And it doesn't help matters that Piper's facial expression during the shootout later on is less grim determination and more "Wow, I'm shooting an AK47 one-handed! This is awesome!"
