Laugh Out Loud Funny

Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris

Hell, most things by David Sedaris makes me laugh out loud.

Then of course there's Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams.

Wow, this is a really interesting thread!! Different. I have to agree with the top post on this page...The Catcher in the Rye had it's moments where I actually laughed out loud...also I remember laughing out loud to some of the antics of Jem and Scout in To Kill a Mocking Bird!

:flowers:

I laughed out quite a bit with all the Douglas Adams, Helen Fielding & Bill Bryson books I've read so far.

Another laugh aloud book is Cheaper By the Dozen by Frank Gilbreth...oh and don't overlook children's books...Hank the Cowdog by John R. Erickson will make you laugh too. We all know dogs who think they're "head of ranch security!"

I could list way too many children's books that make me giggle.

I'm so easily entertained that I usually laugh out loud while reading - makes my family look at me weird. But Hitchhiker's Guide made me laugh on every page. And A Tale of Two Cities had me giggling in some parts as well.

Having received some 'funny looks' myself, I can relate...which reminds me of the time I was reading All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot on the schoolbus...and one of the scenes about the vet assisting a cow in labor at 2am on a freezing cold morning, made me laugh out loud...which made my busdriver want to know what I was reading that was so funny....:whistling:

Twilight and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer because Bella is so stupid! I seriously sat there laughing at stuff that she said.

A couple of parts in Slaughterhouse-Five, especially when Kurt Vonnegut made cameos in his own book....oh gawd the latrine scene LOLOLOL!

Pretty much every book by David Sedaris.

And, while I'm at it, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence by Amy Sedaris.

What I'd Say to the Martians: And Other Veiled Threats by Jack Handey might be the funniest book ever. Also check out all the Deep Thoughts books.

I am currently reading My Custom Van: And 50 Other Mind-Blowing Essays that Will Blow Your Mind All Over Your Face by Michael Ian Black, which is quite hilarious, too.

Riding the bus to work this morning I started giggling with shock on my face, forgetting that there were other passengers,

Reading: Pig Tales-A Novel of Lust and Transformation

Tom Robins always has some great lines in his books. One that comes to mind is from Still Life with Woodpecker:

"...and beneath her No-nukes-is-good-nukes T-shirt, her astonishingly round breasts jiggled ever so slightly, like balls balanced on the noses of valium-eating seals. Tilli stroked her chihuahua. Max's heart made a sound like the sleigh bells on Mrs. Santa Claus's dildo."

I second abecedarian with James Herriot's series of books.

My question is, how many of these laugh out loud books were you given to read in school? I know I wasn't given any....I wonder why that is? If the people setting texts realised that we enjoy these books, and given there is always a hue and cry down in Oz that children are not reading enough, sure this would be a great encouragment especially to get non-readers to enjoy the pleasure of a book?

I have to agree with Catcher in the Rye. The part toward the beginning where Holden's roommate asks him what he's reading and then he persists to where Holden says, "goddamn book!" cracked me up.
