Lee Child: Killing Floor

Jack Reacher, former American military policeman and the new tough-guy hero of modern fiction.
Men want to be him.
Women want to be with him.

I'll let you know.

I love Jack Reacher! I haven't seen the movie, but I think...I'm almost positive that it was based off of One Shot? But it is the same character/general idea supposedly, though I never saw Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, because as much as I actually have gotten to like Tom, I see Jack as someone who can turn you into a pretzel with one hand tied behind his back...Tom, um, not so much.

I look forward to seeing what you think. Alexissmith, if you see the books at a library or book sale, pick one up, I think you will like it? Lee Child is popular enough that you can probably pick him up really cheap somewhere.

I am two thirds through the book and really enjoying it.
I have to say the casting director of the film should be shot.
While I like Cruise and think him a competant actor, blonde and six and a half foot he isn't.
Jack Reacher would have been played by Dolph Lundgren if he were the age he was when playing Ivan Drago. Take that image and you have Child's lead character.
I'm not one for detailing the plot when I've read a book believing it can spoil the read for the potential reader but would just say Reacher is one of those heros who doesn't 'muck about'.
Read 'Killing Floor' and you'll see what I mean; especially the section of the book set in prison.

is that the same story that has been transformed into a movie with the name on its major character Jack Reacher .. full of adventures and thrills especially the end was quite an amazing one and fine written along with the whole storyline .. if the answer is positive then i would love to go with its paper version as well

How ever good you think the film, the books are better, trust me.

I just started getting into these books. Got the new one for free from amazon vine. It was pretty good. They're not exactly deep thinkers, but it's fun to see how many fights our hero can get in.

Having read it do you really think Tom Cruise is right for the part?

I didn't when he was cast, but he did a decent job in the film. I was more than a little concerned when I read he'd been cast, but I think he did a solid, if not spectacular, job.

No. I think he's a terrible choice. I'd go with The Rock over Tom Cruise any day for a part like Reacher. The guy's supposed to be a mountain...or at least mountail-like. The sort where a speech like a fight of 5-1 is really only 3-1 will work.

I came late to the Lee Child bandwagon and didn't read The Killing Floor, but really enjoyed Tripwire. I can't see Cruise as Jack Reacher. I picture him as more burly and not quite a pretty boy.

The Rock would have to bleach his hair and his skin?!!!

To be honest I actually like the movie, if you ignore that its supposed to be Jack Reacher!

I do like the book series though, one of my favourite in fact. Persuader was the first one I read and have read most since then, though not in order. As with any series though it does start to get a bit deja-vu-esque when the hero, a retiree, comes across these bad situations so easily!

I thought he did an ok job as reacher. Yes, he didn't fit what Reacher was supposed to be physically, but he did a good job hitting Reacher's personality.

I love the series, and it is one of the few where you can jump in at most books and not feel lost. Most series by book 5 or 6 the mythos gets pretty deep. For me, every book still works and hasn't gotten tired or old.

You should always be honest!

What I meant was that he was able to do justice to the role, and I was able to get past the physical differences. Things change in movies, and to me the personality is more important then physical description.

Reacher's size and appearence is very much the point in the novels.
To cast Cruise in the part was just plain silly.
In the scene where Cruise lays out five men, in reality this is simply not possible, I speak as a Tornado member, so I have some authority on the subject. Tom would just not be strong enough to do it, now if he was six feet three, it would be perhaps physically possible.........

I guess it is believable for a layperson who wouldn't know any better. I bought it and have no trouble believing a well trained person of smaller stature can drop larger guys, even a bunch of them.

For me, having read all the books and watched the movie, I was ok with it.
