Alix: If you like Nevada Barr you should maybe avoid her most recent - I think it's called The Rope - it's kind of a prequel to her other books. I found she got into too many scrapes even for Ms. Pigeon.

I read Nero Wolfe years ago. That might be worth revisiting. I don't think I ever read them all. I remember thinking Archie Goodwin was probably gorgeous. Didn't they make a few books into either a TV series or a movie at one point?

And I've read all of Sandra Brown's stuff. She's perfect for the beach. I read Linda Howard's more recent stuff too. Got any other thoughts Landslide? I hear you're the resident mystery guru. I read a lot but I feel like I'm forgetting some very good authors in my search.

I so do not deserve that title!

They made a TV series based on the Nero Wolfe books, it's what sparked my attention to them! Maury Chaykin played Nero Wolfe and Timothy Hutton played Archie Goodwin. I wouldn't say gorgeous, but I found his Archie Goodwin to be very charming.

A series I find perfect for the beach is the Women's Murder Club by James Patterson. But you've probably already read them...

Another one one of my favorite series is Dexter but it's definitely not for everyone...

Dexter has a book? And yep, just finished #10 of the Women's Murder Club. Did you see the show with Angie Harmon in it? Not at all what Boxer looks like in the books, but I liked the way she played the character.

Dexter has 6 books by now. I've only read the first three so far but I plan on reading more this year.

I loved that show and was very sad when it got cancelled. I only read the books after I saw it so Angie Harmon was already Lindsay Boxer to me. You can imagine my shock when I found out she's supposed to be blonde and Jill Bernhardt is supposed to be brunette...

I just realized I haven't come back to tell you all the stuff I am taking with me to Panama. I won't post them all, because I grabbed about a zillion freebies from Pixel of Ink, but I'll post the ones that I bought.

Kitchen Confidential - Anthony Bourdain
Damned - Chuck Palahniuk
A Dark and Lonely Place - Edna Buchanan
Me Talk Pretty One Day - David Sedaris
13 1/2 - Nevada Barr
Divergent - Veronica Roth
The Grimm Curse - Stephen Carpenter
Metzger's Dog - Thomas Perry (I am actually reading this one sparingly already)
And a couple of paperbacks my daughter is bringing. She has The Help in there and a Janet Evanovich I've already read, but will read again.

Here's praying my Kindle doesn't crap out again on this trip. I will freak the heck out if it does.

Edit: I have about 15 freebies that I also have as back up. I'm reading one called Optical Delusions in Deadwood by Ann Charles, so far its rather amusing. Its reminscent of Sarah Strohmeyer's stuff.

Looks like you have a good selection there Alix, wishing you all the best for your trip, hope you enjoy it. :)

Thanks guys! The plane ride will eat up lots of that reading I'm sure. Yeesh! I am dreaming of a beach chair, a palapa and a nice cold beverage already.
