I read this book a few years ago, around 2000 or 2001 I believe. It was about a woman, an ex-assassin, who had retired and was living on an island (maybe the Bahamas?) under an assumed identity. Her ex-colleague/ex-lover tracks her down, and together they help out a young girl staying at a nearby tennis resort/school. The girl is in hiding, and although she is of middle-eastern (I cannot remember which country) descent, she is posing as an American Indian and using the name Cherokee. Both of the girl's parents are executed, but they manage to save the young girl. At the end, terrorists attempt an attack with a dirty bomb, but their plan is foiled by the guy, who then dies from the radiation he was exposed to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
