Lost: Season 6

really good episode !

so we made this water system...and it connects to the light...yeah the same light i'm not supposed to go near because it turns me into the smoke monster...and then, you see, i'm going to stick this wooden wheel onto it somewhere...yeah this shabby wooden wheel...and when i turn it i'll be able to get off this island...how do i know this will work? because i'm special...yeah...

OK, sure, but remember when Locke had the vision of the beechcraft in season 1? After that he just knew where to find the drug runner plane. And then when he went into the steam hut drug thing in season 3, and after that he just knew where to find Mr Eko. Then, later, John saw the way the sun fell on Mr Eko's Jesus stick so he just knew to follow that compass bearing. Then he had that dream where Horace told him to find the dead Dharma people, after that John just knew how to find Jacob's cabin. How did John know all of these things? Because he was special, and the island was talking to him. The smoke monster was clearly special in the same way.
 
John Locke wasn't special, in the words of the Smoke Monster himself (itself?), "He was a sucker". :D

I think I might have been able to enjoy this episode (as well as Ab Aeterno) earlier in the series but not at this point.

That's what the smoke monster thinks, but the Smoke Monster also does not believe that the island is special. I find this attitude of his to be quite unreasonable, since he has the ability to TURN INTO A SMOKE MONSTER.

I take your point about it being too late in the show to have an episode like this but, meh, whatever.

I can't believe this is the 2nd to last episode. It feels like there has to be more time! But no, it's cool. I'm sure I'll be satisfied with the ending.
This week's episode was fine. Good to see Ben behaving badly again. It's been awhile.

Do you think Widmore was trying to do something right?

I've no idea what I'm saying. I just feel like I should say something about Lost since it's almost over.

:D I know how you feel

I actually thought What They Died For was very good, though it might have to do with my extremely low expectations after last week's episode...
 
Oh and
I loved seeing Ben, Alex and Danielle together, and Jack with Claire and his son!
I wish we could have a series about the alternate reality...
 
Still working our way through the previous sesaons 1-5 on DVD, seeing and understanding much more the second time through. The first time through on DVD was just a blur, but now it is making much more sense and many more cross-linkages are being seen and appreciated.
Going to be fully prepped for the Seasom 6 DVD when it comes out in Aug (I think.)
Just sayin'.

That's right! I loved those scenes as well. This whole season, looking at the
flash-sideways... I was thinking, "Aagh! I want to see a non-crazy Danielle! When are we going to see her with pretty non-crazy hair!

I was VERY satisfied with the ending.
Did anyone watch Jimmy Kimmel afterwards?
There was a thing on CNN: 10 questions the "Lost" finale needs to answer.
Were they answered?
 
Immensely satisfying, in terms of allegory and symbolism.

For a long time, I was watching this show and waiting for the scientific explanation of everything. It wasn't until the last season that I realized that wasn't what this show was about.

I will have to re-watch the entire series eventually, and remember to view it all from a different angle than I had started with.

We watched the final 3 episodes last night,and it was a very moving,satisfying ending,tho' a lot of the questions remained unanswered,but maybe that's a fitting tribute to an amazing series. I'll miss it. Can't resist one question tho! Are Miles,Frank & Richard still alive cos I don't recall seeing any of 'em in church?!

That is true, I am sure, as we are presently re-watching the 5th season. The whole thing actually. It';s incredible how much we missed the first time around. I can't wait till the DVD comes out.
