I read a description of this book through a library consortium document. Like Blue Lipstick, this is an edgy contemporary book that teachers can order as part of a "book bag" loan deal. I've ordered 15 books and will be working with another teacher to have our girls work through the short stories in it. Anyone familiar with the author or this work? Can't wait to receive it and then draw up some material for my students to work on, it looks very promising.

I read "Black Juice" a couple of years ago. Really enjoyed it. I think she displayed a pretty good range of styles within this collection.

I recently read her first novel "Tender Morsels". Didn't turn out as good. I wanted to like it, but it was tough to get through. Much of what she presented in the novel reminded me at times of short stories being connected into a novel. Some of the chapters, with a little more added, could have made very good short stories. I think that is where her strength lies, so far.

I think "Black Juice" is a very good collection, though I find it tough saying it's for young adults. I think it's can appeal to a very grown up audience.

Sounds interesting; I'll have to investigate further. I do have to wonder though, would the Church Lady approve? Hmmmm?:whistling:
