i totally agree, especially as how it was represented during that time period.

I know this is an old thread but since I am reading it for another book club will bring it up.
This is a great book.The Arthurian legend rises to the level of Greek tragedy.i/e Oedipus.
The clash of cultures, Saxon vs Briton, the clash of religions, with ascendant Christians being as intolerant of paganism as the Romans were of them earlier, and as the Muslims were to be of them in this same period of history.
Yes, its long and full of detail and atmosphere, and I could see how those immersed in the soundbytes culture of today might find it difficult to read. But I recommend it without reservation, whether your interest be the Arthurian legend, strong women in fantasy fiction,or fantasy in general.

I read this about a year ago and just loved it! I was pregnant and sick as a dog for most of this book, but I felt that it gave me a greater appreciation for what I was going through. I need to get my hands on the next book in the series.

i read it 8 years ago and i liked it. i was expecting too much of the book, so i enjoyed less then i would like to, but it was a lot already, u know what i mean?
anyway, i'm looking forward to re-read it in 2011 and maybe some other book of her collection, any suggestions? what would be the following book to read?

I think I might have been expecting too much from it as well. Still I seriously think the author should have taken the expression "less is more" to heart when penning this tome.
