Mary Ann Shaffer, Annie Barrows: The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society

Mine too. I couldn't stop taking about it, which was awkward as Hell ;), because I was the only one who'd read it.

SIL, this has been on my wish list for a couple of months. I've been dithering as to whether to buy it or not. You've convinced me though.

It's been a while since I read it (it's possible that it was more like back in January or February), but I'd be more than willing to talk about it with you here. I found the subject matter to be fascinating - it was filled with WWII trivia I had previously known nothing about - and I was captivated with the way it was written in "epistolary style"; thereby staying completely in the 'present'. Also, I loved the quirky characters.

I only hope I haven't loaned it out to somebody.

Pontalba, I think I may have been a little bit put off by the unwieldy title - but I think I sort of know (and agree with) your choices in reading material, so I think I can amost promise you that you'll like this one. :)

I've pre-ordered the new paperback version coming out, it was the cheapest. It's coming out May 5th, so I'll read it about then.
Thanks for the recommendation. :flowers:

With over 100 holdings in Kansas, I'm sure to get a copy through interlibrary loan. I suspect Mr.Abc and I will have to thumb wrestle for first dibs:lol:

I think you'll like it and StillLearn need not worry about that pie.

You're a cake person instead?

I do like cake. But I guess I'm just not familiar with the concept of needing an excuse to indulge a little.

Now that I think about it, it might help to explain the extra weight around the middle.

No excuses necessary..I just made my Friday Bierock Run at my local grocery store deli...:whistling:

I agree. I, too, was put off a bit by the title, but when I read the synopsis, I knew it was only a matter of time. :whistling:

Unless she just wants an excuse to eat pie...:whistling:
Excuse? Hah. Don't need none of them thar things.
However as was brought out up the thread...there is cake.....:star5:
