Have read this book twice, and seen a movie of it. Should like to read other's insight. The Cement Garden is still my favourite McEwen but then again I guess he was successfully sued for plagiarism on this one.

Carry Me Down - J M Hyland

When I read the Voting for the Book of the Month I thought the choice would be: Carry Me Down. I read it and absolutely devoured it. Shall now seek more Hyland so, even though it won't be used, I am really glad I was introduced to this writer.

Where are the people who voted for this book? Not criticizing, just wondering. Seems a wasted oppportunity.

I'm not planning to read this book, as I have read several McEwans, every one up until Saturday, but he lost me on the last one. That WWI book with the implausible messed up second half.

He's a master at attractive titles, though. Or maybe that's his agent or publisher. The title only rarely comes straight from the author.

I thought there were a lot of What ifs? In the end I just didn't care and got a bit lost inside his head and wanted to find the exit.
