Morning Lark or Night Owl?

Both I think, i'm a bit of an insomniac so I only get about3/4 hours sleep every night.

Best sleep i ever got was during my uni days - all those long classes gave me ample time to catch up on sleep.

I think i'd have to agree with you Jem, i tend to work better during the night hours.

Churchill slept 3 to 4 hours a night, very useful during a time of war, but not good if you are anyone else who is human. ;) I've read that president Clinton tried to do this kind of thing during his presidency to extract every ounce of time that he could, but that it led him to phase in and out of meetings and that it actually ahd a negative impact on some of his meetings where important things were to be decided.

Hah! we all know what Clinton was saving his time for ;)
Funny you should mention Churchill, I just added his biography to my non fiction tbr pile.

I would love to be able to sleep for hours i really would, but i've always slept for only 3/4 hours. Nothing works, except - about 3 sleeping pills taken together but those leave me with terrible headaches the next day. Me and my brother have the same problem, everyone else in the family sleep like logs. An aunt of mine once said, if you don't even know how to sleep, what else are you going to be able to learn in life?

I am an early bird, I ususally wake up naturally around 7:30 or 8 a.m. and want to go to sleep around 11. I love sleep and even though I have to get up around 6 for work and school I can usually get at least 7-8 hours a night.

My fiance on the other hand is a total night owl. He'd like to go to bed around 3 and then get up around 11, but he has to get up at 6 too, but most of the time he can never fall asleep until midnight or 1 am, even after following the 6 am regimen for a while. So he doesn't get a lot of sleep :(

On weekends I usually get up long before he does and do homework or work or whatever, and then we have a nice big breakfast together either when he wakes up or when *I* wake him up! And I'm always conking out before he does at night.

But I much prefer to go to bed between 4 and 6 AM and get up around noon.

My brother and sister in law do this. They own their own restauraunt business and they basically work the first and second shifts together or separately. They start supper around 10:00 p.m. and then it's not uncommon for them to go to bed around 2-4 a.m. My wife and I can handle this over a weekend, but if we stay more than two days, we really start to DRAG. Considering that you don't crash until 4 and that one of the kids wakes up at 7-that makes for a short sleeping time. They are use to this kind of pattern and I guess it appropriately reflects their lifestyle. At the same time, I love my sleep and early morning times, though we enjoy their company immensely and are more than happy to make that "sacrifice" on their behalf.

You just need to get your kids trained. I managed to get my dog trained to the point that she sleeps until at least noon (usually closer to 3PM). If that isn't an option you need to teach the oldest one to quietly turn on the TV!

I trained my youngest daughter to do that when I had my son and she was two. She was and still is my earliest riser. I would be up half the night with a newborn and she would come in and want her morning juice and cartoons. So one night I had the idea to set the tv on a cartoon channel with low volume and put a sippy cup with juice in the fridge before I went to bed. I showed her how to turn the tv on, and that there would be a cup for her in the fridge and all she had to do was make sure the door was closed. I got much more sleep after that. :)
