Most Interesting Thing You've Eaten

Yeah, I've know about Rocky Mountain Oysters, and I've seen many of the Fear Factor episodes, but I was wondering if Wabbit had a more compelling story being from, or in England.

Not sure I'm prepared to belly up to a plate of testicles tho'.

I went to a Mongolian restraunt where i had amoung other things shark kangaroo ostrich etc. The shark was the worst. They had some sort of eye ball thing that i refused to even look at!

I've eaten snake soup. The taste was ok. But I'm afraid I'm goanna die of poison in 3 more days. Haha, just kidding. :D

Infinity, I've taken snake soup too. This ex-colleague of mine ordered snake but chickened out (sorry!) when the dish arrived. He pushed it to me and I said I will not be touching no snake. I did taste the soup.

Snake meat is supposed to be an aphrodisiac.

Wabbit - when you say snails do you mean escargot?

Moto - Steamed catfish (I've never had *fried* catfish) is supposed to be a very healthy dish - the soup you cook the fish with is very nutrious. Apparently. The Chinese love it. You just have to be sure where they catch the catfish from - I've heard horror stories where there are unscrupulous restaurants selling catfish caught from very dirty places. Irk.

Anyone had dog? Here's the urban legend bit - apparently if you've eaten dog, other dogs somehow know this and will generally not be very friendly with you. True or false? The only person I know who had dog is indeed not very popular with dogs.

Boiled pigs feet - pretty good actually.
Lamb Brain.
Lutefisk - A particularly nasty dish made from dried cod soaked in lye and then rinsed in water. A vaguely fishlike gelly substance that tastes horrible.

I was scared at first too but managed to eat the soup. Now I really like snake soup. It tastes good! No poison anyway! :)

Mmm, catfish. A very unhealthy but popular meal: catfish, shrimp, both fried, with french fries. And hush puppies. Num. :)

Oh god....hush puppies....

You wouldn't happen to have a killer recipe for those would you?????

There's a true art to hush puppies.

Crocodile, locust, rain termites. Croc tastes like sweet cartilage, something moreish; you just want more.

We don't eat testicles here... unless you happen to be George Micheal! Most of the unusual things that I have tired were abroad :)

Oh... and I forgot HORSE! From my list! Mmmmm, horse sandwich! It's good! Like steak, only more horsey! :p

Oi - you leave horses alone

I would say the most unusual food I have eaten was probably Bear, Boar and Deer (I didn't know what it was at the time) and also black pudding (again people failed to inform me of what it actually consisted of - I haven't eaten it since though  )

For anyone who likes deer and also enjoys spicy food, I heartily recommend seeking out (or making) a venison vindaloo, a culinary match made in heaven.

Why is it that cashiers in supermarkets have no knowledge of vegetables? Every time I go to the grocery, I get a kid holding up, say, an artichoke or a leek or daikon and saying, "And this is?"

I live in an area notorious for it's people eating anything that doesn't eat them first. I've had...
frog legs
alligator
deer
squirrel
rabbit (we raise them for the meat)
elk
crawfish (look like small lobsters)
raw oysters
turtle
quail
duck
squid
octopus

when i was young and lived in Malaysia, my favorite thing to eat was a fruit called rambutans (sp?) also known elsewhere as leche nuts. They look freaky, but they are oh so yummy!

Hehe...

Some time ago, I read that Prince Philip once caused a furore while visiting students in China saying that the Chinese eat anything with 4 legs. That's not true, of course, but not too far wrong either! :D

And yup, you spelt rambutans right! :) I didn't know they had an english name. Did you have durians? That one fruit that few outside south east asia knows, and it's a fearsome fruit. I've only seen one or two westerners dare to dig in. If you're interested check out the very interesting Durian Online. And I love durians.

octopus-can't remember what it tasted like, just that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I'd never try to eat cow tongue, ugh.

When my best friend was an exchange student in Nicaragua about 30 years ago, she was served cow brain once, but the family wouldn't tell her what it was until after she'd eaten it. Brave girl, she didn't run to the bathroom like I would have.

Strange that a lot of people list squid and octopus as weird. I didn't include them in my list as I don't find them at all weird things to eat.

Love squid and octopus! Yuuuumy! :D

You're weird! :D Interesting, what some people find commonplace, others find unique.

With you on that, bunny, but we call it calamari and scungilli.

Also like whole baby octopi, soft-shell crabs, eel, and sea urchin.

I'm not a meat person, but I do prefer venison to beef and quail and pheasant to chicken--luckily I live in a place where getting hold of those is easy.

None of these are weird.

To me, the weirdest tastes are the highly processed Asian foods with food coloring and preservatives. I find many of them very chemical-tasting and imagine them turning my insides green and purple. Mochi is a good example. It's like rubber with sugar added.

some particular Korean dishes that have a rotten, fermented taste
I believe that would be Kimchi. Never had it, but I've heard all about it.

Once a year, I have fried pig intestines (properly called "chitterlings", pronounced with a southern accent as "chitlins").
