Name pronunciation (split from Avatars)

i have a hard time with her too. and mehastings, is it MEE hastings or meh-hastings?

Actually, I suppose you could choose whatever you want...or you could just call me Joe ;). In reality it is M. E. Hastings (my initials and my last name).

i guess im get the names extra wrong, since my natural language is spanish, when i read the names i usually pronounce in my head the letters as in spanish, unless its some words or names im familiar with in english.

for example if i read gen, i think of it in the same way english speakers would pronounce hen
or usually in spanish i would pronounce martin as martín (marking the I) since thats the spanish version, but since im kinda familiar with the pronunciation in english i simply though of it as plain martin (sligthly marking the A).

maybe just the fact that so many people thought your name was lies as in liar which is inherently a male characteristic.

*ducks for cover*

and now that i know you are a girl, i picture you as very pretty as my friend lise is very attractive.

Really? My father is the only good male liar I've ever met, whereas I know plenty of girls that could make you believe anything.

I can live with that. ;)

Hmm... I wonder what is so masculin about me.

Well, at the risk of saying something totallly sexist and offensive- in my best Joan Rivers voice.. honey, in English.. Lies looks like, well, lies.. and some people associate lies with guys...

now, back to my normal, non-malebashing real persona..

:)

Yeah - I'm thinking of you as very feminine now that I know the derivitive of your name. I think because it reminds me of Lisel from The Sound of Music. (Martin, are you reading this? Doe, a deer... heh heh :D ) I just can't imagine a woman calling herself 'lies' (as in the non-truth word), somehow...

I've seen lies - not masculine at all.

Maybe I should put that in my signature. Lies a dear, a female dear?
