Here's my opinion
thumbs down on Hook me up- too slang
thumbs up on biggerbyte and network it

yeah i think hook me up is too "inside joke-ish" dave matthews says it in the song bartender...we're fans. ;)

i really like network it, and maybe have the work part in different lettering or something. do you think it is generic enough? i mean, we don't want people to think that is all he specializes in.

I;m not sure. If you think it isn't generic enough, then the general public probably won't. The more I think about it, the more I like biggerbyte.

the latest entry......techopolis.

anyone, .....anyone.

Oo.. I really don't like that one. I'm a big fan of '.... Solutions'. It sounds current, and it does convey what you're doing (not sure what to preface it with). I'm looking at your words that describe Matt and what he wants to do... I really like 'Versatility' and 'Versitile'. It has good connatations, and you could preface it with something else, '... Versatility'.

I agree that you should stay away from the apple, however. Not only could you end up with a writ shoved somewhere uncomfortable, but it may also be misconstrued that you only deal with Mac's.

One other thing to consider is your target market. You said you're from a smaller locale (and I am quite familiar with Nova Scotia). Be careful you don't alienate who you're trying to appeal to. For example if your target market is local people, accountants, farmers, etc, be sure that your name doesn't sound too 'buzz-like'. A lot of your clientelle may be frightened of computing, and you might want to look at a name that incorporates both experienced people and those who are more limitted in their usage. This you could do with a slogan below the name itself, eg: "Dependable Solutions for Every Client".

man it is hard to find a name, it is all out there already owned by someone. i literally read the computer section of the yellow pages of vancouver and toronto.
kookamoor, i see what you are saying. it's true. truro is very blue collar, it's an industrial town, so lots of available market, but not as high tech as more metro areas. i like the versatile and solutions ideas as well.

Update us jenn.

What's new with he who likes to smell his own farts?

Got a name?
Has he quit the "rat race", and become a full time entrepreneur?
Spill the beans...please.

well the name thing is alot harder than we thought as everything is owned, and costs a fair bit to buy. we have a pretty conservative, family generation, type population here ie: carters paints, wilson fuel, sansom equipment etc. so we are going to keep it simple like gorham computer solutions.
he has a business partner who owns a franchise called wsi, you can look up their website. matt's current employer is being awesome and has said he will back him anyway possible, whether it be co-signing a loan or salary for a while. but matt feels that simpy getting him to agree to a set monthly retainer and hooking matt up with his ties to the community will be enough. he has been going back and forth with getting a store front as this community still sees working from home as a bit sketchy and likes to know where one's office is located. matt's partner has agreed to shoulder the burden of rent for a year as his part of the business is already bringing in income.
there are also some great gov't run small business agencies that will support and advise new business's. they will do survey's and set up meetings and you can get various loans and grants.
he has been going to local computer retailers and setting up agreements like if matt agrees to purchase from them, they will direct traffic his way. one company has really been receptive to this arrangement and matt has dealt with them before so he is going to work something out with them.
he also joined the chamber of commerce and has been giving free service to a couple non-profits in town, just cause he's a nice guy and to get the name out there.
so he sees himself out on his own within the month.
we also rented our apt so that will cover mortgage and utilities if things get tight.
so we will see. fingers crossed. :)

ok
his boss is making a formal announcement prob next week that matt is leaving. i would say he has been spending half his day out of the office as it is. he signed a lease yesterday for about 795 sq/feet and i have been making arrangements for signage. you have to have a city permit.
after much deliberation we decided the best way for his boss to help out was to keep matt on the payroll for 5 months, and matt agreed that if in that time he comes to a point where he is comfortable he will stop recieving pay and jim(boss) will then sign a contract with gcs,(gorham computer solutions) keeping matt on retainer for a specific amount of $ and if matt works over that amount will then bill jim for the xtra.
as of now he has about 10 clients, who are all large business' in the area, some of whom he has had for years and was simply moonlighting. once the word is out that he has gone independant and will be more accessable, we will be relying on word of mouth. he is going to go do some door to door marketing and start making the rounds at business functions as well.
and once we are in the store front we are going to have a catered party and wine'em and dine'em. as our friend robert kiyosaki says, gotta spend $ to make $.

nope poop, they are all still the construction ones. i will take some new ones soon.
business has been good. his ex boss has been brilliant and given us loads of help and great advice. the town we're in has no mac dealer so matt is applying for that account, plus he wants to be a navision dealer, which is an accounting program that he used at his old job. he set up a little internet kiosk which will only pay for the connection but it gets loads of people in the door. he's been slowly getting more and more foot traffic, and so word is spreading.
the only negative is that this thursday we are being pulled of the sansom tit and will be on our own. i am trying not to think about it too much.

looking for some personal detail too...even tho' a picture's worth a 1000 words...

did you post that after i wrote about the shop? or are you just fishing? ;) :D

gotcha sweet cakes.

well matt's boss agreed to continue paying him his salary for a while and the time has come......

tell us.....new updates....new happenings.....good news.....massive fortunes.....being own boss......perks....tax breaks and loopholes....spill it jennashlea....

hahaha you are funny. ok ok i will talk.

um, well today, matt is out golfing with the chamber of commerce group, schmoozing. and we recently got a security company as clients so he has been changing over their software and upgrading their computers to some fancy security stuff. our rav is about to be decked out with GCS so i will be the official spokesperson for the company while i am out grocery shopping. the kiosk is getting lots of traffic which is good, but it is mostly tourists so not a lot of repeat business there.
a nice perk is that the company is sending me to toronto, i don't know what they are saying i am doing but i am really going to hook up with my 2 bestfriends from japan, jen is getting married and stuart and i are going to party like it's 1994.
still no medical though which is a bit scary but that is in the works and matt works a lot more, but he is really on top of spending time with the boys and doing bedtime routine etc.
when we make our first mil, i'll fly you and the fam up for a weekend.
